Jake Delhomme a Cowboy

Every time I see Jake Delhomme I thank god that he's NOT a cowboy...

he's a little punk...

Last two seasons....53 TDs to 31 Int's...QB rating of 88...started 32 games in a row...in the Super Bowl once...in the playoffs twice in his three years with Carolina...just turned 30 years old.

I'll take it.

Put Delhomme behind our line this year and the result would have been similar. To say he has done better is correct, but leaves out the talent he has surrounding him. The Panthers went for a long stretch this year where they couldn't score.

Delhomme was NOT a foregone conclusion. Hindsight is 20/20.

Delhomme was FA at the time. Had a good workout with Cowboys & Parcells wanted to sign him but he agreed to Jerry's request we needed evaluate Carter & Hutchinson. Well we all know what happened. Frankly that decision set the Cowboys back 2 years as far as I'm concerned. After all, we wouldn't have cut Delhomme in 04 prior to season opener like we did Carter, etc.

You are absolutely correct.

Any second now, someone is gonna post something like "Oh, so YOU knew Delhomme was gonna be a good QB?"

...as if WE are being compensated $4.5 mil to make decisions like these.
Actually what they might post is that Jerry asked BP before he hired him to give QC and Hutch 1 year so see if they were answer.

See Jerry like so many fans wanted to find a QB of the future so he was interviewing Delhomme as a cheap 3rd QB option and got outbid.

We were not that sure that Delhomme would be that good- no one was. The Panthers gambled on him like we gambled on Q and Hutch. We threw snake eyes and they threw 7. Just the way it is.

Delhomme has one of the better OLines in football in front of him. The previous two years he had two high talent WR's under the age of 30 to throw to. This year he has one of the top 4 WR's in the game to throw to. Add that to a very good defense, something we are just getting to having, and I think its safe to say theres a good chance that Delhomme is Quincy Carter here in Dallas, someone who doesn't win you games and usually doesn't lose them for you.

jaketodallas knew, whoever that guy was.

We had the money he wanted to be a cowboy but Bill would not pull the trigger and whem he went to the panthers he never left.

As I remember it we offered him more money, but he chose Carolina.

Nope, that an O-lineman who later was injured and retired.

Name escapes me.

We didnt gamble on Carter and Hutch, we committed QB suicide. ;)

Imagine if one of our QBs threw for only 120 or so yards in a playoff game, people would be on him so fast he wouldn't knew what hit him.

Jake has had those things all 3 of his seasons as a starter.

I'm sorry but Carolina's OL play has been worse than Dallas' for the last three years. Even this year they averaged an anemic 3.4 yards per rush.

think about it for a second

it's Parcells' 1st offseason, his mind is fixated on improving the whole team, and then there's this QB hanging out there, Delhomme, the scouting report on him from the Saint's practice squad and NFL Europe is good, the talks go fine and dandy, but at the time, was getting Delhomme in here such a huge deal? why? who is this guy? what has he done? think about that, and I'm sure you can excuse Parcells for not going all willy-nilly after Delhomme

yep, basically

Wasn't Delhomme stuck behind A. Brooks in NO and only came to notice after he lit us up? Maybe it's smart to trade for a young backup QB who already has proven himself in at least a few outings rather than simply drafting a QB who would take 2-3 years to develop. We missed on Delhomme, but maybe we can redeem ourselves by going after JAX backup David Garrard or ATL's Matt Schaub. If TEN drafts a QB, maybe Billy Volek will become available. Sure there's a chance they could go bust like A. J. Feeley, but they sure look good now. All of those guys seem to have good arms, athleticism, and smarts, and they're all relatively young.
