- This is McCarthy telling Jerry to stick it .
JJ was gonna low ball him and sign him @ the deadline.
- McCarthy was frustrated by the end of the season.
- McCarthy was really frustrated by the block on meeting the Bears.
- Bears interest is legit.
- Saints love McCarthy
- Slater thinks Cowboys are in shock at this .
- Multiple players wanted MM back
- MM told staff contract length an issue - puts everyone out of job.
- Lane Kiffin name popping
- Despite the confusion the Dallas job is coveted
- Mike Vrabel asked Jane Slater to introduce him JJ.
- Cowboys are perceived as league leaders in cheapness.
- JJ - Is floating incentive based coaching contract.
- A lot of interviewable guys are blocked off in the playoffs.
- Dak Loves Kellen Moore
- Long process
- Wonders about Pete Carroll
Jane is the best. I wouldn’t dispute any of her claims. She is the one local reporter that actually asks Jerry the tough questions. Get ready for the start of the Cowboys offseason circus. It’s going to be long one. :mad::huh:

Just a theory but I think the NFL has become too expensive for Jerry. Not that he's poor by any means, but running a franchise requires a ton of cash and Jerry doesnt seem interested in selling any assets to fund the team.
Why do you think Jerral needs more money? One can have lots of money and still be cheap. He just doesn't value coaching and his offers are reflective of that.

Who “Dak loves” shouldn’t be taken into account.

He’ll never play a full season again.
In fact, I'd be actively recruiting coaches who had a 'no-Dak' plan. Number one question would be, how can you get us out of the status quo with Dak at the helm and reinvigorate this franchise? Sean Payton did it with Bo Nix of all people!

Explain how a coach who lost 2 embarrassing home playoff games, finished 7-10, including 6 straight 20 point losses at home be in position to stick it to anyone. Did jerry handle this poorly, yes, but MM no longer the coach is the best news we’ve had as fans in a long time
You are clearly delusional about the quality of this garbage roster. If Jerry provides the same free agency approach with a new coach, you guys are going to see just why we are a third place team in the East, and it’s not the coaching. Coaching is why we had three 12 win seasons in a row, because we took care of business against poor teams and in the division. We haven’t beaten the best teams, the tough teams, the teams that run the ball and play playoff football in years.

LOL, incentive based contract.

Jerry is a freaking cartoon character at this point.

It is ridiculous but it also depends on the base pay. If it's 10 million base and you go from there it's not unreasonable.

The thing is we all expect that base would be substantially lower, thus making it a ridiculous deal. Besides that they then rely on a GM who abstains from free agency.

Jerry is going to go after Moore, which Dak would love but this would be Jerry's puppet. Jerry is wanting to be risk free in contracts with these incentive laden contract proposals.

But look who can or are all available:

Bill Belichick (He can easily leave North Carolina, he's even done it in the NFL)
Pete Carrol
Mike Tomlin (Tomlin and/or the Steeler's would want a change)
Jon Gruden
Deion Sanders (This would take some finagling and Neon isn't going to come for some incentive laden deal)
Joe Brady
Ben Johnson
Aaron Glenn
Brian Flores
Mike Zimmer

Hell, even Rex Ryan is looking for a gig. He was runner up to Mike Zimmer for the DC job last year.

Other than Gruden, who would want to re-polish his legacy and overall reputation, None of these guys are going to take a totally incentive laden deal.

So coaching had us blowing everyone out and putting up 40 burgers but then the talent disparage is why we get dominated in the playoffs? In 2023 we didn't just beat teams we obliterated them. I can't believe the talent difference could go from that to being hammered in the playoffs. Coaching had a huge role to play in those losses.

i wouldn't worry about who Dak loves. they need to bring someone in who's gonna hold him accountable and get rid of that "here we go" right before the snap nonsense.

i mean that crap is so middle schoolish it's disgusting.

wouldn't mind seeing Flores get a shot at it.

Jerry paid McCarthy $8m last year, you think he was worth more?
The leader of a 10 billion dollar organization should be paid less than Terrence Steele? Yes he’s worth more. A middling head coach for a generic team is worth more. Some of these guys are weirdly underpaid IMO.

McCarthy was the first Cowboys HC to win 12 games in back-to-back years since Jimmy. And he did it 3 straight. You can’t expect just anyone off the street to top that immediately. Then the answer is Dump him so you can underpay someone else to perform worse? Where is the benefit in that

He doesn't value much of anything then. He doesnt pay a GM at all, he doesnt value coaches, they are bottom half of the league in player payroll more often than not.

I think Jerry needs more money simply because everything he does suggests he is cash strapped and he operates the franchise like a small market team. Now he has plenty of investments he can dive into in order to create cash, but clearly he doesnt want to do so and is what makes him cheap IMO. Its also no secret that several teams in the league are looking at ways to increase cash on hand with several opening up the team for minority owners over the last couple years. Jerry had to invest somewhere in the 1-2% of his personal valuation in escrow accounts in August due to the large contracts signed. Thats a ton of cash to have readily available, even for a billionaire. When thinking it through it starts to make sense why Jerry waits to make big signings, refuse to fire a coaching staff early and makes them play out 1 year deals, etc. You take away the actual valuation of the Cowboys from Jerry's valuation and he isnt anywhere close to as rich as many owners on other teams.

Could Robert Saleh be a consideration ? he is a heck of an defensive mind and if not for the QB issues at the Jets he was building a powerhouse.

In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys were the only NFL franchise to report revenue of over one billion U.S. dollars. In that year, America's Team generated revenue of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars.

Just read on Bleacher Report that Belichick is high on the Cowboys list. I think it was a CBS Sports report.

Thinks there's a $10 million buyout and if there's a guy who wouldn't have to prove his pedigree it would be Belichich.

Remember, Jimmy Johnson is a special consultant for us and him and Belichich are 2 peas in a pot.

Someone will have to remind me of the last bit of inside knowledge that Jane Slater has delivered.

She’ll always be the woman standing outside Cowboys headquarters with no idea what was happening with Jason Garrett.

Right up to the moment that Jay Glazer broke the story that Garrett was out and McCarthy was in.

I can’t ever remember this ‘insider’ as ever having a scoop - about anything.
She’s pretty well connected and she also said at the end of the interview that she is covering other teams as well and jokingly said she’s not sure how much longer she’ll be in Dallas. She also jokingly said that she wouldn’t be surprised if Jerry Jones called the radio station and dispute it what she said.
Jokingly, she said this
