The ole "T.O." defense, eh?
Call it what you like.
The ole "T.O." defense, eh?
I mean this isn't true.Dak reads defenses like a vet...
I have 3.8% body fat. If you're over 4% then call yourself fat.
Motion, crossing routes, pick plays aren't part of this offense. He understands he's a decoy with coverage rolling to him. I guess you're referring to his lack of ability to read/adapt to the coverage and change his route accordingly. You don't rack up 1,300 yds/13 TDs off of Romo alone though he does elevate the play being a great QB. Says more about coaching again; Romo knew how to make him effective, but our coaches don't? Romo was our OC in the passing game and we have to give Dak some time take on that task as well unfortunately.Dez still does not understand the offense. He will get confused if the ask him to do anything that is not super simple.
Not only are his total routes limited, but his routes are predictable by where he lines up. I think Sturm touched on this in one of his articles.
His limitations make it really difficult to scheme around.
Later in the season after many struggles by Dez, Linehan would actually put in a play for Dez to be the primary on a very short and simple route. Then the next play or within a few plays, he would come back to him in an attempt for a big play. It seemed obvious that the initial short simple play was designed just to wake Dez up so that he would be ready when they wanted him to make a bigger play. It actually seemed to work to some extent.
Early in the season, Linehan just had Dez running go routes because with a rookie QB, he needed WRs running predictable routes. Witten, Beasley and TWill are the good route runners with Dez and Butler being clueless.
Romo was able to take the time to explain the play to Dez in the huddle.Motion, crossing route. Pick plays. Understand the offense? Sounds to me like Dez might be the problem
I would hope Romo would be harder to confuse then a rookie. Ben and Skin are Romo marks. Go to YouTube and watch the 4 quarter of the 2007 playoff vs Spagnola:Romo was totally unglued
The Giants didn't confuse anybody in the first game. The Cowboys went up and down the field on them. The Cowboys settled for FG. Some credit to the Giants. A lot to do with opening day not fully in sync
A better comparison to ask(especially since it looks like Dak is the Cowboys guy) would've been how would you compare him to Carson Wentz? Since you seen them both twice.(JJ)
But hey, how does he compare to a 14 year veteran. I guess
Did they ask Jenkins the $64,000 question -- "Can you win with Eli?"I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more air play.
Anyway, Ben & Skin (105.3 The Fan, Dallas) interviewed Giants Pro Bowl CB, Janoris Jenkins the other day.
I hear ya there and I'll give ya that he relies on mere athleticism but in order to be consistent (esp as he ages as you said), he's gotta but in the film work to maintain his style of play.Romo was able to take the time to explain the play to Dez in the huddle.
The other issue is that the Dez/Romo success was pre-contract for Dez and he was younger.
Normally, NFL players get smarter and crafty as they age. This allows them to continue to succeed as their physical talent diminishes. Dez does not have this to fall back on as he ages, because he's never developed the knowledge for the game/scheme like most players have done in the past. I'm sure he'll still have some great plays and some great games on occasion, but he'll never be a consistent threat unless he finds a way to focus on the details.
Dak reads defenses like a vet... one more year of film study and no D coordinator is fooling him
And if I'm Dak I leave Dallas as soon as possible. Fans like you disgust me
Right on brother I heard this on the radio as well a couple of days ago but was too lazy to bring it up. Thanks!I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more air play.

Nothing directly bad about the Cowboys in general, but let's just say he said a few things that might ruffle some feathers.
No direct quotes here, but in general, here are a few notes:
Dont shoot the messenger.
Dez part 1
Jenkins, who is now rated a top 4 CB in the league, said his job is to follow Dez everywhere and shut him down.
Asked how he felt he did, he said look at the stats...he dominated.
Btw, I checked it out and on paper, hes right.
Total domination both games....and Giants wins.
Game 1....1 catch for 8 yards.
Game 2...1 catch for 10 yards on a whopping 9 targets
Wow
Dez part 2
Jenkins says Dez runs mostly only 3 routes and there's not much mystery about it.
Because Dez is not especially fast, it helps even more.
And because hes not a brilliant route runner, well, that helps even more.
Sure sounds like, ad many here say, Dallas needs to be more creative.
Dak and Tony
Garrett and Linehan has nicely said that against the Giants in particular, Dak had trouble telling when they were in zone or man. And in general, Spagnola was able to confuse him.
So Ben/Skin asked Jenkins what he thought. He laughed and said absolutely. No doubt. They felt confident that Dak was confused and they had the upper hand. He again mentioned that they won both games and generally shut down Dallas (the games were close because Dallas' defense did well too).
Then they asked if he would've felt the same with Romo playing. His face got serious and he said no, that guys like Brady, Romo, and Brees (his words) would see the disguises quickly....that it would be way harder.
Fwiw, in the last 4 years Dallas is 5-0 with Romo and 0-3 without him vs the Giants.
Imo, thats now old news, the page is turned, Dak is our QB, and he will get better vs New York.
Just surprised there hasnt been more said about the Dez stuff.
Like a legitimate GM, a viable head coach, and a defense that can rush the passer?
I don't think it's hope. I think it's a fact of reality.
Somehow I think if Parcells didn't leave after his fourth year, Romo's story would be different.
Not trying to be an ***, but how would the story be different? Romo's bones become steel and never break? Romo unfortunately has become injury prone.Like a legitimate GM, a viable head coach, and a defense that can rush the passer?

Romo is the only reason guys like Dez, Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson, etc. got paid. Even TO had his best year under Romo.
And on Dak: it's a very risky move letting Romo walk right now. QB’s come into the league with no tape on them, a simple offense to protect them, and a green light to just take off when they feel uncomfortable. They do well for a time, but as d coords get tape they find things to expose like RGIII couldn’t run to his left and throw they started blitzing him from the right flushing him left he looked like dog sht… Won the division his first year disappeared after that. Kapernick couldn’t read a defense to save his life stop the run stop his whole game. 2 good seasons with harbaugh, started to fall off in the second but his team carried him. These were top tier guys the franchise were banking on to pan out, the nfl is different if you can’t get better and change the way you play you’ll get exposed. Not saying it will happen to Dak, but every coord in the league is going to watch the giants tape and mimic it until he proves he can beat it. What if he falls apart?
Boys be screwed then. Boys drafting dak and falling heads over heels in love with him, sitting and then chasing romo out of town might be the biggest blessing in disguise for the rest of the league. How fitting would that be for this franchise over the last 2 decades, we finally build romo a borderline nfl team, just to run him out and replace him with a mediocre qb.
MeWho cares what disgusts you? lol.
Did they ask Jenkins the $64,000 question -- "Can you win with Eli?"
You're just making **** up at this point to further you're ridiculous agenda of crapping on Dez. How could up possibly know the interactions between Dez and Romo in the huddle? You don't. Nor do you gave any clue what routes are designed for Dez and which aren't.
He played it 13 games this year and had 4 bad ones...2 of which were against the Giants where the entire offense was shut down. 8 TD's in 13 games, not too shabby. He showed what a force he can be in the playoff game when the ball was actually thrown to him. 5 out of the 13 games he played he had 6 or less targets.
If you want to knock Dez for his inability to stay on the field recently, sure go ahead. But there's no arguing that he's still a top 10 WR when on the field.
