No, he's over 30 and has a large contract. a passrusher in the 3rd has a potential to be a solid starter with long term longevity.

If we were Superbowl bound, maybe.

did you read cap friendly contract ? guess not

The 8 games for 8.4 million is already the current contract. That won't go away. Sure, he could extend...but why not just sign him as a free agent then (they're certainly not going to franchise him at age 31). What you're paying for with that 3rd is 8 games for a cap hit of 8.4 million. That's it.

would you do it ? if he was willing to structure a cap friendly contract ?

No! Teams that make this move are the ones that feel certain this would push them over the top. This team is not in that position. The people that think we are that close are suffering from pre-mature ejubilation.

Normally I wouldn't but this year is a window of opportunity.

We have an imminently winnable division that only we can screw up.

Our defense is a shambles and the injuries are piling up every week.

Getting Allen on our line immensely improves us and takes pressure off Ware's injury and Hatcher trying to do it all.

Deal with the cap stuff and losing a third rounder after the season. We could probably talk down to a 4th and trade Austin for like a 5th or 6th no big loss.

Jerrah is a billionaire horse trader he needs to move on this.

I would do it. Talk them down to a 4th and maybe a 6th or 7th. As bad as we've looked, we're almost guaranteed a playoff spot because this division is so bad. The OL has improved, despite looking bad the past 2 weeks, and should be better by the end of the season. Romo looked great in a few games and pretty bad the past few weeks. MAYBE his ribs hurt and he can't put zip on the ball. This is pretty much the reason we lost the Chiefs game. Romo doesn't have many years left. No one know who we'll have when Romo retires. Lots of teams go into a decade of mediocrity after their Hall of Fame QB retires. We might as well make the most of every season we do have Romo. The secondary is improving and should be better by the end of the season if everyone gets healthy. Our only real flaw (besides shooting ourselves in the foot in epic fashion) is DL. If we can add some pass rush this year, we should go for it. Offer a 4th and a 6th and get Allen.

No. You don't spend 3rd round draft picks on players 31 years old. Besides, why would he restructure to a cap friendly deal?

Wasn't it also you who made a thread like this in the past?

Can you stop titling threads as if the person in the subject is actually available for that price if its just another silly hypothetical?

That'd be greaaat.. thanks.

Had a huge Viking's fan at work tell me Jared Allen was getting out played by a 4th round rookie tackle from the Packers - David Bakhtiari.

Jared Allen will be a free agent at the end of the season, so if they don't trade him they'll get nothing. We could offer them something more than nothing, and point out it is going to cost them in the neighborhood of a million dollars a game while waiting for someone else to offer more.

edit: Well, scrap that million dollars a game. The trading deadline is tomorrow.

I agree. Make a lesser offer and come to a common ground. They say 3rd... we say 7th... they say 4th and 5th... we say 6th and 7th... we agree on 5th and 6th/7th.

Yes!! It would allow us to rush with four effectively on a more consistent basis.

No, if they don't trade him they'll get a 3rd.

They're asking for MORE than a 3rd right now.

Wish we could've done that with Spencer and Ratliff.

Oh, so a compensatory pick? That makes sense. I guess they'd take our 3rd (or anyone else's) since it would be higher than a compensatory.
