Allen had more sacks than Ware the last 3 years including 2011 when he led the NFL with 22.0. Plus he's nastier and more durable. 3 years/$12M, incentive laden deal. Do it Jerry.

Allen would be the perfect filling for a year or two while we attempt to build up the defense line again through draft and/or FA next offseason. He's been just as productive as Ware and would be an asset to a bunch on young guys on the line, especially if they draft a couple.

He wants big money though, his perfect fit is Seattle, lots of money and a chance to chase a ring but I'd welcome him here if its not crazy expensive or long term. Surely he's worth more than Peppers and would get a longer term deal if he wants it right? Younger and more recently productive.

Getting Melton and Allen would just be a fantastic job. Contracts would have to be backloaded unless they restructure guys.

He wouldn't be coming if they didn't know his price or if he wasn't interested.

He will be 32 entering the season, i think he still has some gas in the tank, maybe 2 good years. With him and Melton, i like the idea of trading down for more picks.

Might not be Melton and. Might be Melton or Allen.

Either way, before we cut Ware I was speculating swapping him for Allen at a two year deal that was straightforward with a club option on the second at full market rate for a ten-sack player. It makes some sense since we desperately need a stopgap there. Thought it was a more likely option than asking Ware to take the same cut. And Allen is maybe less risky for injury (if not as good against the run at this point).

All Melton and Allen are doing is driving up their price to sign with other teams. I doubt we get them however I hope I am wrong.

I am a optimist, I think we will sign both, and probably Weeden also. We will probably have to redo another contract for this to happen. I think someone has already mentioned Witten being the one.

Totally agree, even if we sign Allen, Melton and Spencer I still want two of our top three picks to be DT and DE, plus some of the 6th and 7th rounders as well.

I'm not looking forward to older stop gap players. Even those that may still be good. This team needs to find young talent and groom them. If someone is over the age of 26 I am not overly excited. By the time this blind pig of a team finds the proverbial acorn, the older talent wouldn't even be on this team and we would be hoping that the new talent was okay. Why not play them and find out as soon as possible? Just my opinion.

Pigs like acorns?

By the time all is said and done the Ware restructure may have been the best course of action. Allen wants the kind of money Peppers got.

But a restructure just means we push money into the cap for future years. Something they have done with Ware for the last few seasons. That's why he had such a high price tag and impacted our cap. ,I hate seeing him leave, but we must move on.

Nothing wrong with bringing in Allen to have a talk. There is obviously a number the Cowboys have in mind if he doesn't like it he leaves.

Care to point out where I said that? Any good team is comprised of vets and youth. It cracks me up how fans want the Cowboys to have an average age of 22. Yeah, that's a winning strategy.

Yes, Jared Allen is the missing ingredient! Super Bowl here we come!

You were supporting the youth movement in a Hatcher/Ware Thread that was deleted a week ago. Funny thing is, I was going to call you out then for ragging on people upset about letting Hatcher go when you were a proponent of locking him up midseason. Like I said, you support anything the team does. Jerry loves your type.

I'm good on both if it's the right deal and as long as the team isn't duped into thinking the dline is fixed and ignores the position again this draft.
Unfortunately, I just fail to see how the Cowboys land both if they are trying to be prudent with there contract offers. You know Seattle will be doing the same, but with a Super Bowl in there hip pocket I can't see why these guys choose the 'Boys....especially Allen.

Bingo! Yes! Why can't we still change our philosophy and not overpay while pursuing meaningful and impact stop gaps.

Lets kick the tires on both Melton and Allen if we can pull off one or two year deals that are reasonable or incentive laced great - it buys us time to get a couple of drafts under us in the defensive line. If we can't work something out -- no harm no foul.

Please do not break the bank for Allen because of panic driven anxiety from the current state of our DL.

Our DL is currently JV level, I think it may be time to panic. That is why Melton and Allen are coming in for visits

The organization knows our current DL is a joke
