You know it.

I heard the Steelers may look at Clausen. I think that's smart.

That could mean Pouncey or Iupati fall past the Eagles.

Still a long shot.

As long as we have a shot.

I don't get the Colombo bashing. I think he's a pretty solid RT for us. I'd be scared if he had to play LT, but I like him at RT.

Considering our second is almost a third rd pick, if we could get Gaither for just that I would take it. Then let the three of them fight it out for the two positions; Free & Gaither for LT; and the loser of that fight then fights it out with Colombo for RT.

I don't think he could be had for only a second considering where our pick is. However, a second this year and a conditional 3rd-4th rounder, based on production/snaps next, and I would be all about it. With Columbo being a free agent next year we could let him walk and still be set at starting OT. Then we could draft or sign a youngster next year for depth.

All this is of course premature to knowing what his contract demands would be/are. If he is looking for premier LT money then I say stick to the draft.

LT...Free
LG...Iupati
C...Gurode
RG...Davis
RT...Columbo

I would agree with this full-heartedly if I thought Iupati had any chance of slipping to us. I think all the first round OL talent will be gone by the time we pick. I suspect several teams not currently projected to go OL, will go with the BPA and in those cases it could very well be OL.

With that said, Gaither is some what of a proven commodity; so, given reasonable contract terms, I would take him over a prospect.

I would trade our 2nd and a 3rd or 4th next year for Gaither. He's highly ranked (pff) and 2 years younger than Free despite 21 more starts, which would give us proven bookend tackles for years.

Im not bashing Columbo. I'm just saying with Gaither you get younger at two positions.

23 and 26 year old tackle bookends.

I bet you could get a 4th or 5th for Colombo also.

My immediate question is why tell me this and not tell him the same thing? I merely took his post, erased the trade for Gaither which I think is ridiculous, and kept our draft picks. Yet you said nothing about his scenario to tell me why mine is not realistic. How is his then?

Oh, and Stephen Jackson, Brady Quinn, and Jason Witten. At one time no one thought they had "any chance of slipping to us." Prognostications such as that are really pointless.

So would I, but we don't have a prospect to play LT. We have Doug Free who has now proven himself to the staff.

First of all, down boy, I wasn't attacking you.

Second of all, I responded to you over him because, as a long-time lurker, I respect your opinion a lot more; though sometimes you speak with more furor than intellect (current thread as case in point).

Third, because I was somewhat in agreement with you. I would like your plan (Free @ LT; Iupati @ LG) but I think Gaither is more attainable. So, I was replying directly to your insinuation of us getting Iupati and plugging him in to LG.

If we could get him for our three and our five next year I would be on the train.

This is the same staff that see's something in Cory Proctor who Broaddus has clearly stated his digust for why he's on their roster.

This is the same staff that saw something in Montrae Holland and Pat McQuistan and James Marten.

Color me skeptical about their love for Free at LT.

I'm not impressed with their recent track record.

Fair enough.

I think if Gaither was really as good as some fans in here seem to think he is that a team somewhere might be banging a drum looking to get him. I think his worth and talent is being overplayed a bit. Otherwise people actually think 31 other franchises are really dumb to ignore this golden chance at salvation.

What makes us think Gurode has improved as a guard though?
Is there an intelligent reason why you have started erasing the names of who you are quoting?

Yeah, I have wondered about that myself. I think a lot of teams may be doing the exact same thing we could be doing, waiting for the draft to get closer and the price to go down. I think if at any point the Ravens make it clear a second round pick could land Gaither, he is gone in hours. I also think most teams in need of a LT are already looking at the draft to fill that need. We don't have that luxury.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is an elite LT, but I think he has the tools to be very successful for this team. I also know he isn't that much more proven than any of the draft prospects, but even a couple years in the NFL is better than none.

Purely hypothetical, as is everything else draft related at this point, but if all the elite OL talent is gone at 27 and we are able to trade back into the mid second round; would you send a second round pick to Baltimore for Gaither and use the other pick on McCourty, M. Burnett or some other secondary talent?

I Would really like to know how BRewter will fit in this year AND if he is just a depth guy or someone we can start seeing in the line up late in games?
