So how come he can't make a 53?

Same reason that Carter was ahead of Romo once upon a time and that Romo was going to be a camp casualty. Just because someone is on the bottom of the charts does make them any lesser of a QB.

In fact I consider Weeden to be much more of a project than Moore. He still doesn't have touch, timing, accuracy and poise and he is older than Moore. Just because he is part of the 53 doesn't make him better.

Give it time. I feel that Moore will be the backup QB for the future of the Cowboys. Not Weeden.

Good post, Weeden will not be here next year. Weeden was just a stop gap !

Drew Brees has had had good arm strength most of career. It's starting to go some now though.

I think Moore can develop better arm strength, not saying he will ever have a big arm but then timing with WR can make a difference as in delivering the ball at the right point before a WR come out of his break, the ability to read a defense and adjust to the coverage, having touch, the ability to drop the ball in. He has shown he can get the ball down field accurately on the bomb and he has shown he can make the accurate throws on the run.

I don't know if he will make it in the NFL or not but I don't think he would even be in Dallas if Linehan who has worked with him in Det did not think he had a chance to develop

Point taken. I was just stating that he really isn't a project and I guess the thread went off into another direction.

Romo also doesn't have a rocket for an arm either and that was one of his drawbacks when he was drafted. Like what Parcells stated. Sometimes that noodle arm kid from a small school takes it upon himself to win games over the high powered rifle arms like a Ryan Leaf. You can't really know how they perform until they get into a game and show you what they got.

Rather have a player with a big desire to win than just a big arm any day
If he can develope the rest of his game an offense can be adjusted for his arm strength

Vaughn didn't show a damn thing this preseason. He had all the opportunity and did nothing with it. Next up

I think more disturbing is Vaughn looked to regress not progress from last season. Outside of a couple of good throws he was off target and slow getting the ball out of there.

Things must have changed drastically where Vaughn was concerned. I can remember an article in The Dallas Morning News that said the Cowboys thought that Vaughn would be the heir apparent when Tony retired.

So has Doug Flutie. Winning the Heismann just doesn't translate over to the NFL sometimes.

However, things like ability to read defenses, accuracy, poise, confidence and hard work do.

As far as Heisman Trophy QBs go, Doug Flutie did way better than most. Not saying a ton, but just saying.

Moore should be elated if he reaches his level of accomplishment.
Nearly 15000 yards passing in the NFL isn't easy

I'm please that he is on the team because I don't think that Weeden is going to cut it. I think that Moore is a good QB but just needs the opportunity to show what he can do. I think he will and will end up as our backup for the foreseeable future.

The only knock on Moore is that he is short and that he doesn't have a strong arm. I think having a rifle arm is kind of overrated. How many QBs with a rifle arm get drafted in the 1st round never make it in this league? On the otherhand I see QBs too short with a noodle arm like Brees and Montana make it in this league. Heck, Doug Flutie is an example as well. Maybe Doug Flutie was a bad example that I used in regards to Heismann winners.

I'm glad we picked him up

How bad is Moore's arm really? Never really watched him play just have seen countless mentions of his "noodle arm" here since he got picked up.

Don't buy into it...peoeple are just giving me a hard time. Moore is gonna challenge for a starting spot if Romo fails to advance in the playoffs once again....Mark my words..... the Kellen Moore Era isn't far away.

Moore has "it", Weeden doesn't even know what "it" is. Moore is a winner and there have been QBs with average arm strength who have gone on to very good careers due to intangibles. Moore will not only improve the back up QB position, I anticipate that the WRs on the PS are going to improve as well. Mayle and even Street better take advantage of that kid.

Moore's ceiling is 'career backup.' There is no universe where he challenges Tony Romo for a starting job. Sheesh. I can't even tell if you're being serious here.

Floaty tends to get overexcited about his Boise State players. :D

I actually like 'em, too. Heck, I like Moore, for what he is: a smart backup QB with a popgun where a real gun ought to be. But I like having him on the PS, anyway.

I equate it to the first time you pick up some clubs and actually hit a golf ball. It seems that the first few times you swing, it all seems to work out somehow and you start thinking, "Hey, this isn't that hard". Then, you start thinking about it a bit and the wheels go flying off and you're left with the uphill climb of actually having to learn how to play.

I don't think he had the tools for that uphill climb.
