Jason Garrett must go if this team wants a SB

By the way the spike was the right call. Hes playing for the TD not the FG. I agree with that. Didnt rush into a bad play call and allowed us to complete a 7 yard pass on 2nd down. And if that ball doesnt get knocked down he has Dez on the rub route for 15 on 3rd down and we are in business to win the game.

No it wasn't.

The problem isn't Garrett - It's the lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball, and has been for the past 9 years since we've focused on nothing but surrounding Tony Romo with talent so he can heave the ball downfield.

That defense helped win 13-14 games this year.
That defense was altered by putting Claiborne in.

Bottom line: after a bye if your team gets body slammed for 21 points. It's thechead ciaches fault.

It was Barry Switzers fault vs 49ers in NFC title game and this was Garretts fault.

You can talk about everything else but when all was said and done... when he had a chance to redeem his 21 point mistake. He blew it!

"I gave you a chance.... to be a real coach.... and... YOU BLEW IT!"

I'm looking at the coaches on the market and not seeing the next coaching Hall of Famer anywhere for the Cowboys to dump Garrett for. You can probably count on one hand the number of NFL coaches that are clearly better than Garrett, come to think of it, and of course those guys aren't going anywhere.

I don't even like Garrett that much, but great NFL coaches are rarer than great NFL quarterbacks at this point.
Agree no one is out there and you can't replace a coach after a 13-3 season. Unless a guy like Cowher picks up the phone and call JJ..it's a moot point. Still Red has a track record in big games and it's not a very positive record. His team was not prepared and should have came out like a cannon on offense and defense serving notice not on this day Pack...it happened but it was to late.

I've been a critic of Jason Garrett for a long time. His clock mismanagement, the weekly penalties that are like clockwork, the inexplicable habit of turning away from what works to the detriment of the team's success and the lack of playoff success...these things have pushed me to believe he needs to go.

This past game was the last straw. Zeke Elliot is the best player on offense and yet he only gets 23 touches. They come out looking completely unprepared on both sides of the ball. Multiple times in short yardage Zeke wasn't even on the field.

And the last series where the game was lost is solely on Jason Garrett. There is no defending it. A competent HC either wins the game there or leaves the Packers with so little time overtime is all but assured.

Jason Garrett has done all he can as the HC of this team. It will always end the same way with him. How many failed seasons does this guy get before he's held accountable? How many coordinators will they go through? How many QBs?

They need fresh blood on the sidelines. I know it won't happen but I feel it must for this team to get over the hump and win another Lombardi. Just MHO.

From coach of the year to scapegoat, so say the agenda driven knobs. We all knew it was coming.

Ah the typical response from those who have nothing to say.

Tell me...when will be Garrett be held accountable? Next year? The year after?

This guy wasted Romo's career and he's moved on to Dak, now. Or does regular season success suddenly mean something now?

Typical complaint. Again Garrett is a good coach and while the team has not been as successful as we all like, the reality is that it takes time. This is not a microwave league. It took Landry years to be successful. It took Belichick years also. The problem with most Cowboys fans is that we feel like we have this ordained right to win super bowls. Newsflash...WE DO NOT!!! If you are upset to the point where all you can do is criticize please feel free to cheer for any of the other 31 teams. GOOD BYE!!!

That's correct I have not EVER criticized them because I know the difference between fandom and reality. Garrett is a great coach and will do great things when given the necessary time. It took Landry years so please stop with all the complaining. I do aplogize if I disrespected you however that was not my intent.
Landry was born and raised 30 minutes from my house, I'm undefeated in 4 games in the stadium named after him, I was and still am one of his biggest fans. I was still critical of him toward the end of his career, that's just what most fans do when we are frustrated.
I have been a FB coach for 30 years, I've had my fair share of criticism, it's part of the game. I'm sure Garrett isn't losing any sleep over this thread. It's just a bunch of fans venting.
oh, and no reason to apologize, I'm a big boy. lol

We've built an offense that can get around his coaching fairly well.

Now that we've built a almost perfect offense now we need an almost perfect defense. That's how you win with a guy like this.

Of course he should stay. This talk is outrageous. This is a coach who is deservedly going to get votes for Coach of the Year! Common now. I know some of us are angry at the loss but all he did was go 13-3 with a rookie QB and one good defensive player!

On the surface I agree with everything you just said.

On the other hand, 2017 will be JG's 7th full season as a head coach.

He's got a single playoff victory to his credit in that 7 year period and only 2 playoff appearances overall.

I am sick of being told that we just need to wait another year "so they can fix the other side of the ball".

Everything needs to be perfect with JG. They finally took away play calling duties from him. They hired former Head Coaches for both his OC and DC.

In a league where coaching matters a ton, I can't help but to think the Cowboys are always going to be at a disadvantage because they have a run-of-the mill HC.

SMH!!!

Because they marched up the field easily while 'rushing' and GB playing soft and everything indicated that handing the ball off to Zeke to net two yards would lead to a bad play call..

If you remember back in 1996 when the Cowboys beat the Steelers in the SB. What did Barry Switzer say to Jerry? "We won it our way, baby." Or something to that effect.

But Jimmy Johnson received the lions share of the credit for building that team. Not Barry or Jerry. And one of the last things Jimmy Johnson said to Jerry when he left is you'll never be able to win a SB without me. Again. Something to that effect.

Jerry has been trying to prove Jimmy wrong ever since. That he "Can" win a SB doing things his way.

Garrett is a huge part of that. Because Garrett lets Jerry do things "His Way". And tries to influence Jerry to stay true to JGs "Process" along the way.

Its all quite dysfunctional. But it does work to a degree. At least in the regular season. Just not so much in the playoffs. Obviously.

So unless the team just quits on Garrett like they did on Wade, JG is not going anywhere.

Sorry.

The guy ruined Romo's prime, now he's on his way to doing the same to Dak.

I know right... there really isn't much else to do other than SMH for a single playoff victory to his credit in that 7 year period and only 2 playoff appearances overall.

I was not SMH for that reason but your idiotic response. I can help you however, please note there are 31 other NFL teams. Please choose one to support. You people act as if you could do any better...you cannot!

I agree JG was not more direct in demanding Zeke get the ball; he still has issues with clock management; and, he did not have his team ready to play from the first whistle. However, who do you suggest come in and change things up?

There is, after all, something to be said for continuity, especially when the core of the team seems set and the overall message is clearly understood. The team does have an identity and he can build on that.

And BTW, Dallas has been looking to fix that side of the ball for years and Garrett has always scape-goated the defense.

They blamed the defense during Wade's tenure, while Garrett's offense was declining in red-zone production year after year to bottom in the league, multiple TOs that they blamed Romo for, while Garrett was absolutely clueless on how to field a running game.

When they fired Rob Ryan, the excuse was the lack of TOs and not providing Garrett's offense with more chances. They actually drafted Mo Claiborne to shore up the defense and leveraged multiple picks. After that year, Jones probably had enough, particularly since Callahan came here and Romo's new contract came into play and he forced a change in doing things by having Romo in game-planning meetings. That year Garrett tried to sell it as an organizational decision, just like playcalling duties being stripped from him, but it was Garrett that didn't have Romo involved and it was Garrett that promoted his brother to passing game coordinator in one year from TE coach, while they tried to force the latter's pet project Kevin Ogletree into the offense.

They then switched from 3-4 to 4-3, because again, Garrett's scapegoat was the defense. Kiffin was an absolute disaster here so they went with Marinelli. Dallas actually targeted Sharif Floyd as their number 1 pick, meaning defense again. Marinelli said no, he doesn't fit the scheme. The next year they had three defensive players targeted before Martin, meaning again they targeted defense.

We've been a disaster the more control Garrett has yielded.

This debate is oxymoron-ish.We just go 13-3 Garrett is in the debate for coy and his not good enough
Pathetic

Those wanting to dump Garrett should be careful of what they wish. JG has the belief and support of the Jones family and that's important. This roster has been built in JG's vision and it's rounding into something special. The offense is primarily built with the QB, RB, WR1, and OL for years to come. Now comes the defense. We have a few good, young pieces right now and will hopefully add another in Jaylon Smith before one draft pick is used or one UFA is signed. Everything cannot be accomplished in one offseason. The offense took some time and the defense will, too. I believe that we're close enough right now that the addition of a few pieces this offseason will be enough to make this team a perennial contender for the coming years, while growing even stronger along the way. Garrett is a good coach. Not yet a great coach, but good. I believe he'll get better going forward. This team is on the verge of something special and I wouldn't mess with any of the "process" any time soon. But, that's just me.
