Played for Cowher under Haslett and then Tim Lewis as DC. Then under Dom Capers and Vic Fangio in HOU. Spent 2 years with Kubiak and Richard Smith.

"So Simmons got back to football's highest level through a coaching internship with the Packers in 2011 and began climbing the organization's ranks. He stayed on as an administrative assistant with the club until he was promoted to assistant special teams coach in 2015. Three years later, Simmons became Green Bay's secondary coach, and he continued in a similar role under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur in 2019."

So 3 years as a secondary coach. Prior to that an assistant special teams guy. His 3 years as a defensive coach have been under Mike Pettine and Phil Snow.

Interesting tid bit, hearing Pettine and Capers names associated. Similar to a poster pointing out the White/Quinn connection.

Pettine, Capers and Quinn were all names attached to possible DC candidates by some of the local talking heads.

Simmons' tenure in GB could best be described as nondescript.
I think that's a fair assessment.

Assistant coaches are kind of like offensive linemen; you only hear their names if they are really good or they screw up.

However, this guy just coached Jeremy Chinn who was a monster as a rookie this year. If he can convince this stubborn Front Office to invest in a Safety, I'll be a fan.

Bravo. Keep up the hard work
Hmm, could possibly be another one. Let’s see if you are like the others and crap on everything, everyday.

some of you just lie to whine, complain, scream and have toddler tantrums over every move that doesnt suit you, who are you? um an internet know it all gm with egomaniacal personality assuming you know more then professional do..

these are freaking interviews and the emotional outbursts are signs om major immaturity problems..

Another of Big Mac's former defensive assistants from his days in Green Bay.

Simmons' tenure in GB could best be described as nondescript.

Longtime Packer fans would be hard pressed to tell you what it is Simmons actually did for the team.

His resume pales in comparison to, for example, that of Joe Whitt, Jr.

But, but, but he was always fiercely loyal to Big Mac.
Were gonna need you during the next season to help us cope with the misery of having McCarthy coach this team.

Are we hiring the best guys possible, or hiring the best guys our HC once worked with?

I understand liking familiarity, but some point you just gotta move on from that.

Well all I can say is, who had heard about the Rams DC before now? Hell I still don’t know is name!!!!

Thing is McVay is young and not set in his ways. He knew the coach and sought him out.

the older guys seems stuck in their own ways

Yeah, but does that really mean anything? I mean, a player like Aaron Donald and a CB like Jalen Ramsey and a LB like Leonard Floyd can make a lot of DCs look good.

We have a serious "my guy" problem in Dallas.

I used to complain that Garrett had no coaching network so I guess this is me getting what I deserve.

Garrett brought Linehan, Dooley, his brother, Houck and Columbo with him both to the Cowboys and Giants. And the Joe Judge connection is Saban as well.

Impressive resume. Has coached and worked some very successful DBs and Defense Units. Could help McClay draft.

Jason Simmons joins the Panthers as the defensive pass game coordinator/secondary coach after spending the last nine years in a number of roles on the Green Bay Packers staff.

Simmons spent 2019 as Green Bay's defensive backs coach, where he helped the Packers advance to the NFC Championship game and finish the regular season tied for third in the league in interceptions (17). Packers' cornerback Kevin King totaled five interceptions on the year (t-4th), with 15 passes defensed (t-8th). Cornerback Jaire Alexander added two interceptions and finished tied for fourth in the league in passes defensed with 17.

In 2018, Simmons served as the Packers' secondary coach, helping the team finish 12th in the NFL in pass defense (234.5 ypg) – a significant improvement after Green Bay finished No. 23 in the category in 2017. Under Simmons' watch, Alexander led the team with 11 passes defensed and finished second in tackles (64) in just 13 games, earning him a spot on the PFWA's All-Rookie team.

Prior to coaching the secondary, Simmons served as an assistant special teams coach for Green Bay from 2015-17, where he helped the Packers special teams units excel across the board. In that stretch, the Packers ranked second in the league in opponent punt return average (5.7), and they were second in the league in yards per punt return (10.7) in 2017.

Simmons got his start with the Packers in 2011 as the team's coaching administrator, where he worked hand in hand with the defensive coaching staff to collect and analyze weekly production statistics, as well as assisting the defensive units in practice.

As a player, Simmons was drafted in the fifth round by the Steelers in the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to play in 121 games over a 10-year career from 1998 to 2007. Simmons spent the first four years of his career as a standout special teams player for the Steelers, before signing with the expansion Texans in 2002. In Houston, Simmons expanded his play onto the defensive side of the ball, seeing more action as a spot starter and reserve safety in the Texans' secondary.

Simmons played safety at Arizona State University under current Panthers' defensive coordinator Phil Snow, who was serving in the same role for the Sun Devils at the time. During his senior season in 1997, Simmons was named second-team All-Pacific-10 and named a team captain.
