Dallas East please explain why you say he has no understanding of the 2001 Pats?
Hmm. Good question.
An untimely hit by Mo Lewis on Drew Bledsoe.
A tuck ball call in the playoffs.
Just two examples which I could subtract from the Patriots' first Super Bowl season that would've persuaded sports historians, such as DaBoys4Life, to not summarily proclaimed Bill Belichick's coaching during the 2001 season as 'great'.
That was his contention or rather comparison between Phillips and Belichick when he responded to my post, since my reply does specify
2001--not Belichick's complete coaching resume. Weighing both Belichick's pre-2001 and Phillips' current head coaching successes are highly relative and comparative. That was Belichick's first Super Bowl season and if not for a few lucky breaks (and Adam Vinatieri's clutch postseason kicking), Belichick's resume wouldn't have added that particular gem.
If not for good fortune, the 2001 Belichick and the present day Phillips would've been very comparable. That is the basis of my reply to him.
So, what was your impression of Belichick's coaching performance pre-2001 (including his 2001 season) and Wade Phillips' now?
