Jay Glazer - Favre will retire....*Merged*

I am sure glad to hear this news!

One less great QB that Dallas must compete against.

NOT the MOST storried QB by a LONG SHOT. There are easily half a dozen better.
VASTLY over rated the last 5 years. His performance against the Giants in the 4th Qtr and OT was PATHETIC.

But then BSPN and madden...

I'll miss seeing him on the Packers but he had one hell of a run. What is going to be interesting for me to watch next season is how Madden is going to have to change up his schtick! LOL

Tiki. Favre.

You know what this means?

Green Bay wins the Super Bowl next year.

Quick, let's get Ellis or somebody to retire. :laugh2:
How can you compare Favre to Barber?

I really wanted Favre to come back for one more year. I think once Moss signed with NE, it made it easier for him to decide to hang 'em up. Sad thing is that he eneded his career with a bad, but fitting none the less, decision.

I bet Romo is somewhat sad that his favorite QB is calling it quits.

He played in one of the most storied venues, I'd be hard pressed to find many QBs that played through as many sensative family situations - and his performance last year was storybook. Physically he's been through so much, playing in the coldest place each season - all the while remaining a class act on/off the field.

I'm curious to know the 6 QBs that are more 'storied' than Brett Favre.

This is a great picture.

Oh come on, that was funny. :laugh2:

Well I'm sure after they finally saw a little something out of Aaron Rodgers (against us no less) they will not all commit mass suicide, by cheese.

considering the setup - yes. i will admit that was funny. : )

rodgers looked darn good. he'll forever be compared to favre and may be their "danny white" - but he was impressive against us.

Favre will forever be one of my favorite players, I'm sad to see him go but he certainly had a terrific run.

If true, thus ends one of the greatest careers I have ever had the privilege of watching. Some may hate Favre. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the man played the game.

EXACTLY my thoughts. He was my favorite player I've ever got to watch who didn't play for Dallas.

If you can, tune into Fox Sports Radio, they're getting react from Packer fans.

It's hilarious. They sound like they're about to cry, like someone died.
I cried when Irvin and Troy "retired"

I sniffled when Woody retired.

I was sad when Emmitt retired.

It's the end of an era and Packer fans have a right to grieve over it. I sure did.

sorry. i like favre and admire his abilities. but he retires more than tuna. when the season starts and is 1/2 way over and he's not back on the field in some glorified return, THEN i'll believe it.

Favre has never announced that he is retiring before. The last few years he has thought about it, like many players do as they get older, but he's never said that he was going to retire until now.

Really?

Closest I've ever gotten to crying over sports is when I heard Sean Taylor died, just because of the shock, and as a division rival, and living in Commanders country, you kind of got to feel like you knew him.

Retirements....not so much.

His coach seems like a no nonsense coach.
I bet he forced Favre's hand.
Prob told him Rodgers was starting or there would atleast be open competition for starting job in TC/PS.

The guy has been a good QB - I cant go GREAT. He cost his team too many games.

Obviously people react to things differently. I'm not the most emotional person in the word, but their retirement press conferences were real emotional to watch.

Favre responds to Mort report

ESPN's Chris Mortensen, who reported a few minutes back that Brett Favre's decision to retire had something to do Randy Moss not coming to Green Bay, got a quick response from No. 4 on that.

"One thing he did want to say is that in the big picture of things, this wasn't about Randy Moss," Mort said. "This was about being mentally worn down, the wear and tear of the offseason, the studying every week, everything taken into account. He and his wife Deanna talked about how anything short of winning a Super Bowl would be a disappointment and not worth the amount of time.

'Physically he can still play, but to win a Super Bowl, what are the odds? The odds are long for almost anybody. And he just not ready to go through the mental wear and tear, and said that the coach, Mike McCarthy, was great. He had a great relationship with the general manager (SMU-ex) Ted Thompson. He said there might some truth to the idea that he's disappointed there wasn't a major play for Moss, but that's not the driving reason for him retiring."

Mort also said that the decision sounded "absolute." So there you have it.

He also won more for his team than he ever cost them. He's only the QB with the most wins in history, ahead of some guy named John Elway.

Favre is beyond great.

I can understand why some on the board may not like the guy given some of his efforts during 2002 through 2007, but I suspect that there may be more than a few that did not get to witness him when he was truly at his prime , collecting a Superbowl trophy and three MVPs.

If he wore a Star on his helmet, 95% of this board would be stating that he was one of the best football players they ever saw. He played the game he loved and it showed every time he was on the field. I will never forget the performance he put on during Monday Night Football after his Father died, it was unbelievable. Thanks for the memories Brett.
