It would seem that the crack (if there was one before) has seemed to widen between Jay and the team.

I'd say last year's injury issues might've caused a crack, but the DWI so soon after the Josh Brent incident definitely put a strain. Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if they banished him from Valley Ranch for awhile, too. Having read all the various tweets and reports, it seems they're back on the same page, if not necessarily on the friendliest of terms.

Oh how this situation would have been different if Jerry hadn't just handed Jay a new contract.

It appears to me there is a lot more going on here then the happy spin the Jones's are trying to put on it and I am not generally Jones bashers.

Where's all the folks who said that DL was a position of strength this year? Ratliff and Crawford out.

I hope they did not banish him, does not seem like the right thing for a organization to do when the have a player going through a issue, seems like that is the time to pull him closer.

We're talking about Ratliff? Uhmm, when the report came out that he got a DWI, I'm pretty sure the team took a very strong stance against him.

What's somewhat funny is that Hatcher said Crawford would be the reason he signs elsewhere when his contract is up.

Turns out Ratliff might be the reason he stays put.

i hope becasue we aren't going to be able to replace both of them with great options.... you know what i mean, and we can't count on crawford, if he gets back and healthy,great....but dont count on it

Must we always have some form of a call out in a discussion? At the beginning of the offseason, the DL had pretty good depth. Nobody could've foreseen the injuries that occurred.

Depth according to who? Jerry? Please. Everyone involved with the team could see the potential for mediocracy with a few key injuries. For some of them, it's their job. Like the GM's.

I just think there is a way to be firm with him, without out telling him stay away, especially if he was rehabbing.

That would be Kiffin and Marinelli...

Again, injuries would destroy any team's depth. And the deeper you go, the more mediocre the depth gets. You start the offseason with 10 guys on the DL and four of them go down in injury, there's no way the team could've prevented that.

I just think there is a way to be firm with him, without out telling him stay away, especially if he was rehabbing.
Like I said, it's just pure speculation on my part. But reading Rat's tweets and Jerry's tweets, then I'd say something happened for him to stay away.

"A few key injuries"

To my knowledge, a 43 defense has 4 men on the field on the defensive line. A few must include at least three to be more than a couple. So you're saying 3 injuries to a 4 man unit limits depth and potential.

I don't know of any team that plays the same 4 who start the game for the whole game. Nice try but a big FAIL on your part.

I was exaggerating, apparently that wasn't clear.

The point is, any unit that loses "a few guys," is going to struggle with depth.

Everyone in the NFL can be a mess w unforeseen injuries like Crawford. Ask Denver or the falcons oline. And they are supposed super bowl contenders w solid gms

If you put emphasis on the trenches as a good GM should, you'd have more depth. There are a lot of teams that have key injuries yet survive nicely because of the philosophy that you build your team via the trenches first.

Two years before the existing contract was to expire...

He had outplayed that contract.

We can say it looks bad in retrospect but we got Ratliff on the cheap on his first long term deal which he signed well before the rookie deal expired. If you want to keep getting guys on the cheap (e.g., Lissemore), you need to show that you will address deals if the player exceeds expectations.

I think Jerry should keep that tranquilizer gun (the one that was rumored to have been around when Alonzo Spellman was here) handy if ever near Ratliff. You never know with Ratliff. Just like Ware said; sometime you get the good Jay and sometimes the bad Jay.

Right now it is all bad with Ratliff. Worst part of the bad is that idiotic contract extension given to Ratliff. Why play around with this mentally fragile and weak individual? Put him on IR and be done with him. He can go to the Bengals next year.

Hey, Jay. Here's an idea. I think your rehab and recovery will go better if you smoked some joints with your girlfriends. Don't worry. They don't drug test players on IR. Wink wink. Oops, they do? Sorry about that big guy. Now give us our money back and enjoy your suspension.:) I kid.

But, I really wouldn't mind if the league just wanted to get tough and suspend him for a year (or two) for the DWI. Wouldn't bother me at all.;)
