Are you kidding me. Gachkar, carpenter, Keith brookings, Brady James, Bruce carter, zach thomas, akin adeyele, al singleton, dat Nguyen, dexter coakley were all better

I said it in preseason watching him that you're not going to see Jaylon Smith fully healthy until next year....

And fully healthy these days is nothing like he was at Notre Dame. And even that, his health has nothing to do with how bad he looks. He has no idea what he is even doing out there. The fact we took him with a very high 2nd round pick is disgusting. Spare me the feel good, comeback story. Don't care one bit about that. Couple that with the 3rd round Chaz Green pick the year before. 2 draft picks down the drain.

Well, we got Prescott, Brown, La'el Collins, David Irving and others late in draft or in free agency. No one hits on all of them.

You guys saying it's not about the injury and it's him as a player obviously never saw him play at ND. You don't go from the type of player he was too the type of player he is now without that injury. Hopefully he can get fully health and be able to focus on adapting to the pros and not having to focus on doing basic football thing without being able to lift his foot. That's what is happening now. The kids talent is undeniable, he just needs to get healed up all the way.

He is absolutely not fully health, and won't be for a few more months minimum

Then it's on the coaches for playing him over Wilson. But he's not blameless, he's actively avoiding head on contact which is costing this defense and the team big time.

He may never recover from it. Heck, it is probable at this point that he won't. I did watch him at ND, was electric. He is no where near that point now and probably never will be :(

Shame on this front office and coaching staff. You cannot tell me Wilson or Durant are worse. Smith has been ok when he get 15 snaps a game. He’s exposed when he see’s extended snaps. It’s a shame this staff won’t swallow their pride and put another LB in when Lee is out. Or adjust try putting Frazier in the box and play Dime with hitchens in the middle.

People said this kid was "too risky" - "not a long term answer" coming out of college.

Imagine him paired up with Lee right now (when healthy) - a smart player that can cover. Instead we are experimenting with a freakin' LB who can't even make cuts and won't be "fully healthy" for another season.

It could pay off long term. I’m not giving up on Jaylon yet. But for THIS year he needs his snaps limited. We need to draft 2 LB’s next year and sign another in the offseason. Anything we get from Sean Lee is welcomed but you just have to be prepared to play without him. We aren’t!

They need to have Hitchens, Wilson and Wilbur on the base defense with Smith only coming in on blitz packages

Glad you have because he's been here 3 years and has been more hurt than he has been healthy. Also lost his job to a journeyman. And made Adrian Clayburn look like Reggie White in his prime.

Did Reggie ever have 6 sacks in one game?

I agree, Lee needs to be just an after thought. His health has been an issue from day 1 and I doubt he will be more durable as he ages.

Here is a good video on Smith his final year in college against good competition. Show me in this video how what we're seeing right now is any different before his injury.

He's the same exact guy - the only difference now, he's up against even better competition. He was the same hesitant, biting on play fakes guy he is now. There is no difference.

It's time to just admit this kid wasn't a superstar talent before his injury. The limit comes mentally and instinctual, not physically.

I still believe he can make an impact on this team for a few years. I believe in him.

It's a 2 year injury. 1 year to rehab. 1 year to get used to playing football again.

Not everyone is a freak like Adrian Peterson

If he stinks again next season then it's a bust.

Its time we face reality and accept a couple of facts that may not be the most pleasant to accept right now.

A. The guy is a shell of his former self from his Notre Dame days, yes he did fee lance quite a bit but his athletic ability was off the charts. Now, he has regained linear speed but he has no ability to change directions where you have to plant and turn applying torque to the knee joint. You cant play in the NFL if you cant change directions, you just cant.

B. Now the more disturbing truth, it appears that he is intentionally not taking on blocks directly head on. The reason for this is simple, if you take on a block head on you are applying vastly greater resistance to the knee, whereas if you come in at an angle or from the side, much less torque is applied to the knee.

So it looks like he is intentionally moving out running lanes in an attempt to tackle from the side and not head on in order to protect his knee, but by doing so he is getting totally washed out of plays. This is not good guys, you have a LB that cant take on blocks head on and cant change direction in space either. Look, I get that he is a feel good story and we are all rooting for him, but the reality of the situation is that he should not be on the field right now, I am sorry, but it is what it is.

Easy to say now but the truth is I have NEVER seen Jaylon as a MLB. I just dont see a lot of THUMP there. Always saw him as a run and chase kinda guy who should be playing on the outside. Thing is....... If he cant run anymore, then he has no role and is useless because Jaylon Smith will NEVER be a successful middle linebacker in the NFL. Looks like we threw away two second round picks with the drafting of Gregory and Smith. Not good.
