Much like many fans, I'm not sure the reporter understands the issue. If he does not understand it, then what he said could easily be completely wrong.

If the nerve was "firing" and causing the muscle to move, other reporters would be on the story. Local Sport Talk radio would definitely get the story. The Fan, 105.3 talks about this issue often and they have great access to the Cowboys because they are the Cowboy Flagship station. Broaddus, Mickey, Fisher, etc. all work with them.

If the nerve is "firing" it would not just be in one obscure report by Brandon George who is barely a blip on the radar of Dallas sports reporting.

Incredulous is not an argument. Point to anything that contradicts the story.

The lack of confirmation of the story is enough to doubt it. Everyone wants Jaylon to heal and play at an elite level. If his nerve was firing it would be a wide spread well know fact by now.

There is nothing in the interview to indicate the nerve is making the muscle move.

Jaylon would have to say it for the reporter to know it. If he said it, why not quote it?

He's had tingling and sensation in it since April 2016. Like I've said before, when it fires it will fire and we'll all know. When the AFO comes off it will be a great sign.

Doctors, trainers, etc would be in a position to know if it is firing. If you cannot figure why they would not want to be quoted then I say you lack imagination.

The article says his mind's reaction is catching up with his nerve firing. You think he just pulled that out of his butt? Cause to me it sounds like he is paraphrasing something he was told.

Doubt requires nothing at all. I doubt to an extent that you even exist.

It's funny out of one side of your brain the reporters don't know enough to say what firing means and then I am told that if it happens then we will know.

Fact is there is a report that the nerve is firing its just not all the way back as his mind catches up to it.

Okay Fuzzy, be the optimist for Jaydon. I wish the guy a full recovery.

I can't imagine he'd be effective at all playing with a paralyzed calf/foot.

Need to prepare like he's not even here, if he somehow makes the full recovery then that's gravy.

I wouldn't bet on this. Unless you hear the interview directly, sports talk radio generally reports by copying from other sources. I have nothing to add to this version of nervegate but just wanted to point out that sports talk radio is often the least sourced, most open to conjecture of all the media - fan message boards aside.

I'm being a person that says that an article in the DMN where there is an editor involved and competition in the industry to show up other reporters that an unretracted article that explicitly indicated the nerve as firing should not be discarded because I don't like what it says and am afraid to get my hopes up.

I can guarantee that the nerve is not firing to the point of giving him any control over his lower leg and foot. How do I know that for sure? Well, I know who Jerry Jones is. Within 30 seconds of Smith's nerve beginning to fire and him being able to move that foot even a little, Jerry will be in front of a microphone telling the world what a genius he is for drafting Jaylon Smith. There is zero chance Jerry will sit on any good news reguarding Smith. His ego will not allow him to hold back on telling us how much smarter he is than everyone else.

For the record, I fully expect Jaylon Smith to challenge Hitchens for the middle linebacker role.

He's already here, at 90% or better.
Possibly the best MLB on our roster right now.
The only question is if he'll eventually get to 100%; I'd take him at 95.

No reason for gloom and doom.

You say that but he gave Anthony Spencer a ton of money and had his reputation tied into him more than Jaylon after he traded up for Spence too.

He had microfracture in 2013 and it was known internally going into the offseason that the surgery was a success and he was going to play. We know this because Spencer talked to the press about it after it was all said and done. Did Jerry run right up to a mic to announce to the world that the microfracture was a success?

No, he did not.

This is a medical situation and the club in general from the GM to the VP to the HC are coy as hell about prognosis. You can say the same thing about Crawford or Church's comebacks from achilles over the years. You can say the same thing about Mo or Dunbar and their patella injuries.

All were significant injuries to key players and yet not one of them had a Jerry Spectacle Presser to reveal they were back. Basically we knew they were working hard at rehab but we only knew they were gtg when they returned to practice.

Not in the Dallas area. The sports talk guys dominate the local sports media. Most of the print media guys do guest spots and some are regulars on radio.

I've heard some of the radio guys in the Northeast that just spend all day screaming and ranting "Cowboys Suck" and "Wentz is already better than Joe Montana". In Dallas they actually do cover sports. Yes, they mix in "bits", but they cover sports topics in great detail and have great guests.

That's a good point.
