RELEASED Jaylon Smith released

Well this has done more to restore my faith in this franchise than anything else they have done in a long time. They did the right and obvious thing for the team and franchise. And they didn’t waste 10 years to do it like they did with Garrett. They made a football decision - he just wasn’t worth it.

Does this upset the locker room?

That’s a benefit of this move. Players need to have that fear in the back of their mind that they could get cut if they don’t perform.

On a human level I understand the posters who say they’re sorry that the guy lost his job but, this is professional football, and players feeling that their jobs are guaranteed I think is part of the sense of entitlement that set this franchise back for decades.

Another thread going on today ask when will you believe that the team is for real. Well to me this is a pretty solid piece of evidence that they mean business this year. Coldhearted business.

you're moving the goalposts, no one said the coach wasn't informed and brought into the loop but the decision sure as hell wasn't his. Stephen and his front office do the grocery shopping and cap management, they didn't want to be on the hook for 2022 and any possible injuries.

It's not moving the goal posts. The reason you have coaches is to evaluate the roster. Can't say the Cowboys over the years have done a very good job in that regard. Seems like a night and day difference since McCarthy got here. And that includes this move.

I do understand the injury risk— but was there no other way to utilize him this year? Extra pass rusher?

Don’t kill me on the comments…I totally get it he’s been awful. Just trying to come to terms with the timing of this.

Maybe they see the young guys are better than expected…

You guys think another surprise is coming as in another linebacker or corner coming in a trade or pick up?

Starting to feel like 1991.

oh boy

What sucks is that we could've used his money towards Byron, imagine having Byron and Diggs on the other side

You are doing is making an assumption and it may be correct, I dont know. But who do you think is the next linebacker up if something happens? It could be that a part of this move is because they want to get Cox more PT.

If they insert Cox, who is going to babysit him? Parson, is still learning, and the new additions have not grasped the playbook.

This is a nonsensical move. Release him for what? Why reduce our depth at LB?
