I've said this for four weeks, and I've been chastised every time. He's been a huge liability all season... .
not by me

Pretty good TD today though.Jack averaged less than a tackle per game his first season and could barely get on the field.
Jack only has 17 tackles this year.
Then why are you posting on a sports forum buddy? We can't assess anything because we don't know the assignments? Not trying to be rude but you most likely lack the qualifications to make these comments about Jaylon Smith. You don’t know his assignments on any play and are basing your assumptions on highlight reels or Madden level expertise...
You could even be right...but most likely not because you have the knowledge of NFL MLBers play in our defensive scheme...
Define "relied too heavily" on Smith when he was a backup pressed into duty.Yes I think he deserves his own thread.
Shouldn't be on the field. I understand that its injuries that put him in this position but even then I think there were plenty of LBers available that could do a more serviceable job.
He is a liability in pass and run defense, he gets taken out of the play easily, is always a step slow and is not physical at all.
Maybe he can turn it around as he grows but I can't wait until Hitchens and Lee are back and IMO we relied too heavily on this guy being a factor. Big mistake.
Linebackers often get hurt. Your backup linebacker is likely going to start a few games at some point in the season. We could have done better at backup linebacker than this.Define "relied too heavily" on Smith when he was a backup pressed into duty.
I'd be like saying we relied too heavily in Alfred Morris.
Sounds like a backup LB with upside who you'd want to get reps...The Jaylon you're seeing today is not the same guy that was at Norte Dame and understandably so when accounting for his serious injury and his existing condition.
He was one of my favorite college players and I watched plenty of him every Saturday. He's moving mechanically right now and that won't subside until the drop foot is completely resolved. If you watched him with the Irish you saw a smooth athlete with elite burst. He's functional right now where he's at in his recovery but not close to the player he was at Norte Dame.
Oh I see...you based this observation on nothing but you just opening your eyes. Then why are you posting on a sports forum buddy? We can't assess anything because we don't know the assignments?
It's plain as day open your eyes and just watch #54, our MIKE, get lost in the running game. I can't help but laugh at you assuming I'm basing my assessment on highlight reels and Madden. Sounds like you have an issue with calling a spade a spade when your favorite team is involved.
Agree on th3 coaching....I remember all the hate on Lee for being soft.
I remember all the hate one Hitchens for you name it.
Now it's Jaylon Smith.
Has he been great? No. Has he been asked to attack the ball and use his athleticism? No. Has the coaching staff given him simple assignments such as blitzing? Nope.
He will get better, but the coaching staff also need to use him better. He was an attacking downhill linebacker in college and they're asking him to play on his heels. What do you expect?
As far as people expecting him to do what Lee does, he's not playing the weak side. He doesn't have the free run to shoot gaps like Lee does, he's tasked with a gap and usually has to take on a blocker.
Yeah. It was his fault we couldn't score in the second half.Yes I think he deserves his own thread.

Jaylon is a big part of the problem on defense. How qualified are you to say my blame is misdirected? What does Jaylon do well?Oh I see...you based this observation on nothing but you just opening your eyes.
Well at least it wasn’t made with your eyes closed? Were you drinking at least?
Discussing on a sports forum isn’t the problem. Calling s spade a spade isn’t a problem...but misdirected hate and blame based on what you watched on tv today towards a guy playing a position you may not understand shouldn’t go unchecked. I wanted to see how qualified your observation was and see if you had some expertise to bridge the gap between what you saw and what I saw.
Why are you posting on a sports forum if you don’t want opposing opinions and observations and follow up questions?
Losing Damian is going to be a huge lossThe sad thing is he's considerably better than the replacements on the bench - Wilbur, a bum, and Keith Smith, a FB. Also dont forget Wilson will be suspended in a few weeks.
