Expected. It's only been two months.

It's not even about that.

What does "not improving" mean? Is it not growing?

From my understanding, there is no "improving", you don't gain control of the foot slowly over time. It's just one day you can't and the next day you can, then it's about strength and conditioning.

I'm on record as saying the pick was a big risk, and probably an unnecessary one, but Werder is just doing his typical trolling where he takes exisiting information and twists it to get more eyeballs.

"Significant improvement" is just about the worst possible way to phrase Smith's progress from the injury because it suggests the recovery is a gradual process where you could expect some improvement from day-to-day, week-to-week, or month-to-month.

But that nerve is going to be like a light switch: It's either on or off, there is no in between.

Waiting for the light in a dark room to "significantly improve" without flipping the switch is a fool's errand.

I'm no doctor, and I didn't even stay at the Holiday Inn Express last night, but from what I recall reading in the past, a form of "progress" in his case would be nerve growth (it is expected to grow one inch per month, or something like that). So he could be improving significantly (at least growth wise) without anyone even knowing it. As stated, the nerve won't fire until there has been enough growth...meaning it will remain "off" for several more months, in all likelihood. These things require patience...and prayer.

Not sure why people keep bringing up Ragland. The reason this team liked Smith, especially pre-injury, was his flexibility in terms of being able to play multiple LB spots. Ragland is not that type of LB.

Dr Cooper said that the nerve could grow around an inch a month after 1 month of being dormant. July 7 would be 6 months since his surgery which would be 5 months of growth. Stephen Jones said that it could be between 1 and 1.5 inches a month of growth.

Cooper also said that the damage was about 6 inches long. So at the 1 inch rate his nerve could have healed 5 inches so far with another month left. (This is if there are no complications)

LB Sean Spence had a similar injury and his came back at 6 months. He was able to wiggle 1 toe each day when the nerve was reconnecting.

The watch continues...I hope Mr. Smith doesn't make Jerry look like a bubble headed boobie. I'm no doctor either.

Marinelli wants run, chase guys that can cover. That's why Jasper Brinkley was a bust as a vet free agent. He also did not fit the mold.

What are some folks expecting?

At the projected growth rate the nerve wouldn't be at the point that it should be innervating the muscles in his leg yet. Beyond that, I think it was a slim chance to none of him playing at any point this season anyways.

Sean Spence should be the model.
