He is one of the worst insiders who have credibility in the field. So I take the reports with a grain of salt.

I think people also need to be very careful because we are in the pre-draft season, the season of subterfuge. Maybe the Cowboys want teams to think we're aiming for a linebacker in the draft.

We're picking 28th, its not that deep

I'm confused. People are talking about knee braces and impact on his knee and shortening his NFL career. I thought his knee was just fine and fully recovered. He is only wearing a medical device on his foot to help with drop foot. This has no impact on his knee is what i thought i understood. He can play with it and 1 other person has played with it in the nfl? Was i reading and remembering incorrectly?

The knee is fine. But running involves not only the knee but all the muscles in the foot. If your foot is not operating properly, it stresses other muscles you need to maneuver, including the knee.

From what I gathered, the poster is saying that there will be undue stress placed on his knee, which will likely cause it to give out quicker than it would if Jaylon had all his leg muscles working for him.

I was wondering who'd be the first to see this as a positive.

That's me! Mr Optimism!

To your point, it would be nice for the organization or someone with medical authority to provide a definitive status update. Seems all we get is innuendo, vagueness or some snippet from that unnamed source. I understand the FO is not obligated to say anything but the fact we haven't heard something specific, undeniable from the FO leads me to think no definitive news is bad news.
True. Good news always manages to find daylight so the scoop on Jaylon is probably not ideal.

Again, I'll go back to what Jaylon said. He said he's making significant progress and that the nerve is firing.
I don't see why he would lie about that, and he would know if his nerve is firing or not.

I'm not as anxious as many others are. It's the off season. It's not like we need him to play now. I'm willing to wait. No time to panic now.

I agree with you, you have a source making one claim and Jaylon making a claim of having sensations returning to his foot. Is he 100% right now? I doubt it but I trust in the player more than unnamed sources

I'll ask because I haven't followed the situation closely. Has Smith actually said the words, "My nerve is firing"?

Jaylon Smith says the nerve in his leg is regenerating

"Yeah, it's regenerating," Smith said of his nerve in his left leg. "It's just a thing that you have to have patience. I'm going to continue to do everything I'm asked and controlling what I can control and we're going to take our time with it."

How does Smith know his nerve is regenerating in his leg? Is it because doctors have told him or is it something he's feeling now that he wasn't feeling before?

"Both. Doctors and tests all of that good stuff, feeling," Smith said. "There are things I didn't have before that I'm definitely getting now."

Also note: this story was written in January, two months ago.

The only part I cared about was he is expected to play anyway.

Yeah, but it's hard to imagine him being what he was before the injury wearing a drop foot brace. He may well play, but never have the impact we all hoped for on draft day.

Its not hard to imagine, when he was drafted he was no where near the progress he has made now. So just getting him back on the field for OTA's then mini/training camp and thru the season would be huge. I have no idea how he will do, but I do know he can't do anything if he is not at least on the field.

Come on people. 14 months since the surgery and if we know one thing about Jerry, it is that if the nerve had been firing before now, he would not be able to contain himself and found the nearest microphone to announce it to the world. Bottom line is a 34th pick in the draft that never should have been. Loved the player, hated the pick. Is what it is.

Being that camp doesn't open until mid July, I don't think this is worth worrying about at this point. Pick was already made, can't change it. Admittedly, I wasn't in favor of the pick at the time, but I really want the kid to succeed - he's a terrific young man who is easy to root for.

The bottom line is this - the Rapaports and Fishers of the world can pontificate all they want - the only ones who know where things truly sit right now are Dr. Cooper, Jaylon Smith and the Cowboy hierarchy. Until we hear that he is officially playing with a brace, free of a brace or not at all, all of this is conjecture.

Ian rapoport nuff said
This is what was said about Rappoport back in October/November when he tweeted that Gregory was awaiting another suspension after another failed drug test.

Kill the messenger. That's what we do.

Turns out he was absolutely correct. Doesn't necessarily he is about Smith. But it is a mistake to simply sluff off his tweet because you don't like what he says.
