Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith said he is seeing "some great transition with the nerve regenerating," that has affected his left foot. Sean Lee said it is "a matter of time before he's a dominant players."

I really hope this kid pans out. Dat Nyguen but bigger and better. Jaylon's personality for what ever reason really reminds me of good ole Dat...that little dude could ball, was always positive, and was a leader on defense.

Marinelli's comment pretty much sums it up:

"A lot of it is going to be answered for us with pads. That's where it all comes down. This is Step 1, but Step 2 is a huge step for anybody. It's a grind in camp and then it's the physical contact. That's when you start putting a lot of pressure on your feet and your ankles and your legs. Pads are everything because now it's bone on bone, it's weight on weight. It's all of those things. He's going through Stage 1 here, and it's good stuff so far. Step by step, progress and try not to seem more than it is. It's just progress."

I think I am going to just wait and see how this all turns out for Jalen I think he is very positive and really hope it works but I guess we will see even if he cant play he will still be here until his contract is up because they will never admit it was a mistake like they will never do with Gregory

Well...I guess I'll be the one to say it since nobody else has the guts...So what? Good for him. Question I have is can he play? Been watching all the highlight reel stuff from his college days....If the Cowboys plan is for him to play in the middle(and by all accounts it is)...I think they are making a huge mistake. He looks like a strong side LBer w/ decent coverage skills...that can come off the edge on the blitz. When is the last time we played in the 4-3 and can say the Cowboys had a good blitzing LBer? Been quite a while. I just hope the plan of him playing in the mddle is bogus. He tackles too high. Doesn't bend @ the knees to get low enough to take on blockers. He will get destroyed in the run game taking on guards. And really..I wouldn't trust that knee inside the box. Too easy for O-lineman to take shots @ it. Get him in space...I think that's the best bet..let him fly to the football. Wouldn't shock me to see them flop Wilson to the middle. But then again we are talking about the Cowboys...and the way they develope players....Half of the time they find a way to mess it up. Wouldn't be the first player that it would seem so obvious on how to use him....but this staff does just the opposite. I just hope this kid lives up to the hype...but I got a feeling the fans are gonna be disappointed....and it won't necessarily be his fault because he will be asked to do something he's not very good @.

All the hopeful writers for Disneyland, should seek a place there.

A coach saying that he hasn't arrived and still has work to do? That is about as cliche coachspeak as you can get.

A coach saying what he is doing right now is not as significant as what he does with pads on is not your every day clichéd coach-speak either. He is making progress in step 1, let's see what step 2 says. Not the same as saying in vague terms that he has more work to do.

You actually read his post? This is the same guy that said Kellen Moore was going to kick Romo out of his starting spot.....

That wasn't all bull, Moore is an intensely football smart player...for an upside.

I was just setting an evaluation standard for talk around Smith, although...'in pads.'

Every offseason since he has been in Dallas, Marinelli says that work in underwear doesn't mean much. Perhaps you missed it before but this is hardly some special case but rather business as usual with the same rhetoric ie a cliche.

He was speaking specifically about Jaylon Smith and what a difference the pads makes though.

What you want to bet that he would say that applied to every player on the roster? Just makes me think of Parcells and his anointing oil tirades beyond that.

Maybe, but he was asked specifically what to make of the glowing reports about Smith.

If he starts talking about bone on bone, putting pressure on feet and ankles when referencing every player, then your point might be as significant as you are trying for.

Jaylon never tore his meniscus. His point is they cannot hit like they can when its pads. He says he wants to see how his guys play in pads every year when asked in OTAs to make evaluations.

Basically what he said was the he looks good now in underwear but the real test will be when the pads come on in a couple of months. I don't see what is so ground breaking or significant about that.
