Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith said he is seeing "some great transition with the nerve regenerating," that has affected his left foot. Sean Lee said it is "a matter of time before he's a dominant players."

It's not really news, since the regeneration has been reported already, but more confirmation of it is always nice.

What's not so good is hearing he's going to be 'dominant players' according to Sean Lee. You can already see the 'too many men on the field' penalties coming in that next GB game.

Does the nerve have to regenerate first before it "reconnects" or innervates to the muscle?

Yeah the axons in the interior of the nerve die from the point of injury down the extremity. It has to remove the old tissue and regenerate new. That ship has already sailed though. He is wiggling toes.

Now the nerve has to innervate the muscle which is a completely different process.
