Back in the 90s in Austin, I spent quite an enjoyable evening with Randy Galloway, Frank Luksa, Rick Gosselin, Tim Cowlishaw, JJT and Steve Schonfeld, a St. Louis football writer. Attended Cowboys training camp that year. My claim to fame in those days (ha!) was being "Jim from Knoxville" on RG's Sports at Six show. Schonfeld was killed in a hit and run accident not many years afterward. Really nice guy. We spent a lot of time debating the Cowboys future and the NFL in general. I miss Galloway's show and writing, and I miss Luksa's writing. Both great guys; loved the Cowboys. Gosselin and I had a bit of a debate about the direction of the Cowboys. I was wrong, and he was right (unfortunately because he had an extremely bearish view). Those days media guys weren't ESPN celebrities. Anyhow I wish JJT the best.

Only names missing from that group are Gary Myers and David Casstevens. Back then, sports writers could write.

Indeed. I kind of thought of Luksa as the last strong link to Blackie Sherrod. They had unbelievable access to the team, as well. If I were more comfortable about breaking a confidence, even all these years later, I could tell a story that would surprise a lot of folks here about RG. I will say this much -- his access to Jones, Johnson, et al in those days was amazing. They might have gone to war with him pretty frequently, but there was a strong level of respect and trust. He knew things loooong before they became public. Times have changed, I think, and not for the better.

ESPN is laying off @ one hundred people who are classified as " on-air talent" because of a huge and continuing loss of revenue due mostly to cord-cutting. At least that is my understanding after reading a few articles on it.

He was terrible on TV, he just acted like he was being bothered by having to answer questions or give an opinion.

With JJT and Ed Werder are gone, It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas!, seriously though I hate to see guys lose their jobs but I don't think these two are going to be missed
