If the defense is baiting Dak to make an audible to a run play in order to get the odds on a defensive call, it should be a learning experience he can grow from. Too bad it didn't happen during the game, but film review should help for future games.

This reminds me of the playoff loss last year, where there were also claims that there was a "tell". Tendencies are one thing, but if there is something you think is a tell, and you try it and it works, you keep doing it. If the other team never figures it out, yep, it was a tell.

After watching again I agree with Jeff, he didnt leave many yards on the field.

He also doesn't create any yards of his own. Gets what is blocked and falls forward.

It is what it is.

I wondered how much we were getting humped by NO being prepared to quickly change their play when Dak audibled. They seemed very fast on the draw with their changes. Almost as if they *baited* us into the change, and had planned the other formation all along.

Coaching matters. They seemed one step ahead. That's the obvious response to our changes at the line.
I really think this is what was happening.

Because they played a lot of cover 2 which took away the deep ball.

Cover 2 takes away the sidelines but leaves the deep middle available. The long pass to Jarwin was up the seam which the Cowboys should have tried to attack regularly the way the linebackers were playing up at the line of scrimmage.

You won't make much money betting on a Jason Garrett team almost always passing on second down following a first down incompletion.

That's any team passing on 2nd down

Not when they drop the LBs to the middle and use what is called clog coverage Jarwin caught one and then Witten fumbled.

When I say middle, I meant in the pass game. A few good examples are the catches Witten made in the middle (including the one where he eventually fumbled). But the great examples are the PI that Pollard drew where the LB was caught peaking in the backfield and if he hadn’t grabbed Pollard it’s 6 points. Then the catch Jarwin made to get it down to the goaline; the backer bit hard on the play fake and Jarwin got away from him. So even when the boxes were more favorable, the backers were crashing so hard that there wasn’t much there. That’s why you loosen them up with your backs and TEs in the passing game.

You're not looking them up in the passing game when they're dropping 7 and 8 guys. Did you watch the game ? There wasn't much separation, and when the did get it. Twice to Cobb was incomplete, Witten Fumbled, Jarwin scored

That's why you use play action to make the linebacker play up. Then you can throw over the top. The Cowboys were 6/7 on play action. They didn't use nearly enough play action.

They didn't use it more because the Saints stop biting on it as we wasn't effective in the run game, they dared us to run vs 5 and 6 man boxes and we couldn't. Why would they continue to bite when we weren't effective with it.

Zeke and the OL usually feast against boxes like that.

Strange game that the OL struggled as much as they did. It’s very unlike them.

Very Interesting stuff. It looks like the offensive coaches has some additional work to do.
…..then Dak should be allowed to audible into the right calls.....in his 4th year......Right?

Run to what, for what? I mean, yeah, you can get 3 yards on 1st if it's blocked well but what you want is to be in 2nd and 5 rather then 2nd and 7 or 8. Make them do what they don't want to do. Make them defend what they are not good at or not suited to, personnel wise. That's the way to beat a good defense.

As usual you're spot on. The Cowboys have the talent to dictate to the defense. Make them respect the boundaries and the deep zones. Throw a few quick hitches to Cooper when they play off. Hit them with a few jet sweeps.

Someone else said the play calling was the same as the first three weeks, it clearly wasn't. The Cowboys allowed themselves to be dictated to and then we just stubborn about it.

We would have done better throwing than 2 yards a carry with Zeke.

Again, we don't know, there's definitely more risk for more turnovers throwing into the teeth of the defense. Cooper was hurt, Smith couldn't shake Apple. We had opportunities . A touchdown to Cobb missed, and two fumbles stopped good drives, those dont happen we win by at least 10
