I think they should play their normal defense but be sure to not allow Jackson behind them.

Worry about Javkson too much and Maclin will torch us.

Right...

When has he done that this season??

Maclin can be taken 1 on 1.

In todays NFL, ONLY A MORON would judge a player by how many Pro Bowls he has been to. De angelo Hall, anyone?

Receivers have been running past Tnew all season better take the blinders off. Jackson is probably the most dangerous WR in the league right now. He's had 5-6 TD's over 50 yards. The Cowboys are going to have to double him or we may witness another nightmare in Philly.

They can use Newman or Jenkins on him. It's motion and the slot that bothers me. I don't know if Scandrick can cover him. Well, to be honest I don't know the others can either.

Both safeties will have to cover him deep depending on what side of the field he's on. We can't have the defense turned upsides down trying to cover Jackson when you have Westbrook, Celek, and Maclin on the same field.

It's pressure on McNabb that will determine this game. Pressure and containment.

...well both Jenkins and Newman were track athlete's...i think Newman is the fastest and would probably see the most duty against Jackson...

...like Campo said, the secondary will have to really use their eyes in this game...when Philly goes shotgun/max-protect Hamilin and Sensabaugh need to abandon the LOS and focus on coverage...the key matchup could end up being Celek vs. Sensabaugh...but Dallas would let Celek get his if it means they could keep the wrapping paper on Jackson...he has accounted for a lot of Eagle touchdowns to date...make Philly prove they can sustain multiple long clock-eating drives...

...Dallas needs to do a better job of not allowing McNabb to step up like he did last year in the first game...they need to bring him down when they lay hands on him...

He's correct, but he probably doesn't know why.

Since Jackson is their Z, that leaves him on the offense's right in base sets, as the least jammable WR. In base defense, that puts Newman on Jackson, since he's the LCB.

Meaning if Jenkins were assigned to Jackson, it'd essentially be a CB flip. The problem with this move is that it's a technique flip as well (opposite footwork). Newman had to do this in 2007 when he came back from injury to help Reeves who was the struggling LCB, and Newman had issues with the footwork for a few games. Jenkins doesn't have much experience with the LCB spot at all, at least versus most formations.

So even if Jenkins is better at man coverage, keeping him on Jackson hurts both corners more than if it were Newman shadowing him, since if it were Newman he'd be shadowing him from the defense's most practiced/played positions. Also, a common tactic is to leave your #1 corner alone on the opponent's #2 WR and leave the best WR to be doubled by the #2 corner and a safety.

In both scenarios, the better option ends up being Newman.

Persoanlly-I would like to Jenkins follow Jackson no matter where he lines up with over the top safety help. Newman takes Maclin and either CARP or Sensabaugh on Celek.

Anyone know for sure how we will line up?

I would go Newman. Newman usually gives small fast receivers problems.

I expect the same D as when we played Carolina. Newman on Jackson (Steve Smith) with some help over the top. Then the front seven can tee off once in awhile.

You are probably right. It's gonna be Newman with FS help over top.

Thank you...I think both of these Eagles' WRs are being highly overrated.

Newman has given up some plays this year. The Giants game was tough. However, he played very well against Tampa Bay. They got that one play at the end of the half on him when he just slowed down on his own. The Cowboys should have protected their CBs better at the end of the half, imo. I wouldn't have given them a free shot at the end of the half after my blue-chip CB had blanked them.

Steve Smith got shut down for the fourth time by Newman. His pick iced that game.

Newman did a great job on Brandon Marshall and shut him down for almost the entire game until Marshall grabbed his shoulder bad and yanked him back and used it as leverage to get ahead of him. It could have been called offensive pass interference. Newman had to play catchup, and I think that affected his jump on that ball. With as well as Mike Jenkins is playing, and he's playing lights out, Pro Bowl football, I don't know why Dallas didn't just double Marshall at the end of that game.

He was solid at KC and just couldn't quite hang on to that diving pick when he hit the ground.

Roddy White got a TD on the goalline on a bunch formation, but Newman held White way below what he normally gets. Newman took him most of the game.

Newman has been lining up on the other team's best guy most of the season. That is why he is being targeted more. That forces the other team to throw the ball at him.

Newman has given up a few plays, but he's having a good year. He's forced some fumbles by jacking guys up.

I expect Dallas to give Jackson to Newman, and

Terence Newman is going to shut that little troll down.

Newman VS Jackson will decide this game.

I'm comfortable with either one... The secondary will give up play but I hope the will make some plays as well because McNabb will give them some opportunities.

Somehow that doesn't give me a lot of confidence. Newman has not been Newman this year and K. Hamlin has been less than adequate.:(

watch more football.......corners get beat...even have a few bad games back to back...to say Champ sucks because he had a WHOLE season were he got toasted back n fourth..is just lame......

Newman had a bad game vs the giants.....and gave up like a 30 yard pass to Seattle......and made a bad play in the 1st quarter vs Atlanta

stop the hysteria

Asomuga(sp?) had a bad game, Vincent Jackson totally made him his *****....i never seen newman get treated that bad by a WR the way he did....if that was Newman, wed call for his head

We simply need to get in Nabbs tail, stay in his face and nothing much will matter in the secondary.

Dog, you defend Newman WAYYYYYYYYYYY too much. The excuse for the Marshall catch is just pathetic. Newman is having an average year. Not good or bad. He used to be the best in the NFL to me. If you want to see the best corner in the game nowadays look at the defense when Dallas has the ball. He will be shutting down Mr. 45 million.

What hysteria:confused: ? All I said was that Newman has not been quite as reliable as I am used to and that Hamlin sucks. I haven't been ragging on Newman. He just isn't having his best season, so going against a good speedy receiver makes me a little nervous especially if he has to count on Hamlin for help. I like Newman. He has been so good and lock down over his career that I had come to expect that from him. I hope he plays the way I have come to expect from him. If he does then Jackson will not have a big game against us.

Jackson would run by Newman all day. Newman has been getting toasted most of the season now that they have him in press coverage. He's lost at least 2 steps from when he first entered the league. The Cowboys are going to have to double Jackson or he'll have a field day.

Nope. Just do what Raiders did and b physical against Iggles Wrs. We win

...righty...just make sure your corners are'nt the LAST ones beat...

...it's been pretty well documented by Football Outsiders that Dallas is a better defense with Newman on the field...what he gives you is a helluva lot more than he gives up...
