This guy is supposed to be one of the best DB coaches in the game. Our defensive backs have been awful.

They've been awful longer than he's been here though. Is there a scout that is in charge of scouting DBs, or do scouts just scout every position.

I cannot for the life of me understand why our DBs are consistently terrible. And they have been for a long time.

What's going on? It's not like the organizing isn't trying. They are throwing tons of resources at the position.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm being serious. Not trying to start a complain thread. This is a legitimate question.

Jerome Henderson will be the next scapegoat that loses his job at the end of the year. Seriously I think Jerry will clean house at the end of the season and make a run at getting Gruden.

I wasn't aware he had that kind of reputation.

He was highly lauded coming here from Pittsburgh, where he consistently produced a fantastic corps of DBs. While he was there, they were always tough to throw on, and I don't seem to remember Pittsburgh DBs having the gaffes that ours do.

It's because he doesn't have anything to work with. One first round bust, nobody taken higher than a fifth round pick from a major university and a bunch of Division II talent. We continue to select DB's from small schools in high rounds. They aren't on the team anymore and Wilcox will follow them out the door.

Was waiting for this thread. Not that I've got a position on Henderson one way or another.

You don't really have to 'make a run' at a stationary object nobody else is interested in. I don't think. I guess, you could make a run at it, but that's just likely to startle it or confuse it.

He was a secondary assistant with the Jets in 2008, where he helped develop Revis. In 2009 he went to Cleveland as their secondary coach and worked with Rookies Joe Haden and TJ Ward.

From there he came to Dallas.

Jerry Jones, he love his small school projects. Or over paying for talent.

big school guys havent exactly worked out either, its more a fundamental problem from Scouting.most of our DBs have trouble when the ball is in the air and they only react once the ball is caught.the only guy with some semblance of coverage ability is Scandrick but he has terrible ball skills.

We just don't have enough talent. They have invested resources, but you have to remember that Carr wasn't even the best CB on his team when we signed him from the Chiefs. Mo has been very disappointing. Wilcox doesn't seem to have much. I like Barry Church, but he should be playing in the box.

Not only do we, but most of the NFL needs to change its philosophy on drafting and acquiring DB talent. You need players who can stay on the field, tackle well, and cover ground. They should be long and decently fast. But you need that along with the other things I mentioned otherwise it doesn't work well. They have to have hips and a backpedal still as well as have some technique but they need to recover well.

Revis and Haden are exceptionally talented players, considerably more talented than anything we've had here at corner in a long time. I dont know how much credit to give to Henderson for either of those guys but obviously something is not working here. Whether thats the scheme, play calling, position coaching..something is broken

the scheme here is react after the ball is caught and keep everything in front you.I see other DBs of other team close in even when the ball is in the air but i have never seen our DBs do that even during the campo years.

I'm with you and want to add Eberflus to the mix. Our coverage has been awful for three years and they have been the coaches involved most in coaching coverage players.

That is what we are doing because our guys don't have any instincts on routes. You are supposed to react to routes run into your zone.

Why would Gruden want to leave his cushy job to work at the circus known as Jerry World?

So... Only draft blue chip players. Got it.

Carr is capable if we play to his strengths. I said when we traded up to draft Claiborne if he wasn't a top ten CB then we busted. What I mean by that is he's not a bust but the trade is. He's an above average CB in coverage who cannot play zone well and doesn't tackle well AND stay healthy. JMO. Wilcox is too soon to say much although I like his range. I like Church but only as a slightly above average safety. He's a very capable tackler but his coverage skills make him average to a little better on a good day.

We need long defensive backs with who demonstrate decent to better coverage skills and put that on the field plus.
