Jerrod Goff, DeShaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky or Cooper Rush

If Dak fails and regresses this season, I would not be opposed going into the draft and snatching up a QB in what is looking like one of the better QB draft classes we've seen in a while.

Wow. Aren't we Mr. optimism this evening. :D

I want to see Rush against ones - not against third string. Didn't Mitch just get that chance today and succeed? Kizer also got a chance, and I think he did better than his stats indicate. I've actually liked most of the rookies I've watched - they are exceeding my expectations. Seems to be a decent QB class and we could have two straight years with the upcoming class with a lot of franchise QBs.

Good points. Dak did this stuff against 1s in preseason last year, and Rush hasn't played against starters.

Still, if you're evaluating who your QB2 is going to be, both Rush and Moore have competed against the same level talent and Rush has looked like a professional quarterback and Moore has looked like a walk on.

I don't know if we'd want Rush long term as a starter, but the bottom line question is this:

Dak goes down and can't finish a game. Who you want trying to close it out and get a win? My vote is Rush.

Tier 2 school players get undervalued. He was also a 4 year starter and is a very intelligent person. I was very happy when we signed him but had no idea he would be where he is now.

I've already said it and I know it will irritate many fans but Dak had better not hit the wall some think he will or he will not receive a second contract from this team... and Rush will be the starter in a couple of seasons. This could also be a huge salary cap move.

Can you imagine if we had 2 starting caliber QB's? It presents a lot of opportunities potentially. Trading one, saving money by signing one cheaper, insurance for one regressing.
But I guess this may be how Washington felt with RG3 and Kirk and we know how that turned out.

It's all premature but fun to think about.

Dude just no. He tore up a bunch of DBs who won't be on NFL rosters in a week and a half.

He looks great but for the love of God tap the brakes.

Fuzzy---are you concerned at all with Coopers relatively weak arm and somewhat slow release??..just a thought not trying to be a negative nancy

Relatively weak to who? John Elway?

He can complete the deep out, comeback, and in. He has plenty of arm strength. Even better he has touch to get the ball over defenders and fit into windows.

His release is inconsistent but when its right it is plenty fast.

The vision, instinct, poise and decision-making is what I'm excited about.
which is precisely what made Dak fun to watch last season. not to say Dak doesn't have a good arm, but I think poise and instinct (the intangibles) are more critical.

Its a good problem to have. Luckily we won't have to worry about that until a few years from now. But I don't think that Dak will hit the wall.

Its funny you mentioned about these small school QBs. My feeling is that too many draftniks place an emphasis on the strongest arm, the fastest and most mobile, etc. They tend to forget other aspects such as experience and being able to read defenses. Thus Cooper Rush slipping thru the cracks because he didn't have the strongest arm or ran a faster 40 time then most of those other rookie QBs.

I know people will point to Stephen McGee and the pile of crap QB prospects we have brought in but I get the impression that the club has hit its stride in QB development. Two years in a row that rookie QBs have shown tremendous progress is no coincidence.
LUCK

Whatcha gonna do when Rush-a-mania runs wild on you, brother!

It's not like anyone here is calling for Rush to start over Dak. Such craziness would only happen under the most unlikeliest of circumstances. It would take something extreme. Like losing in game 1 to the Giants.

Some here try and make points by emphasizing Cooper was playing against backups. I would point out that Cooper was playing with backups.

By the way I think Cooper's arm strength is about the same as Joe Montana's. He seemed to do OK in the NFL.
