I bet the argument 'against' is from the point of video editing, ie. Getting social media riled up by an edited video of a penalty that looks more egregious than it really was, or something like that. Which is a valid point.

But, the teams still make up the Trust, and without them there is no NFL. Content, as long as its their individual media IP, should be able to be distributed by the team.

You can CYA on both cases by agreeing not to contribute the IP as to negatively effect the NFL brand.

I mean it's 2016. It is the media and technology era. You can record movies on your cell phone. The NFL cannot honestly expect to stifle team media content for very long.

It'll be interesting to see how this develops. One could argue the NFLs brand is diminishing because of this very stalwart stubborn approach.

This beef will be settled in the super bowl, back in the place it started: Houston

Stephen A and idiot fans/media: How is JJ gone argue with a Kraft. JJ hasn't won nothing in 20 years, Kraft is a winner.
The league is a business and any business exist to maximize profits. Jerry may not have been winning superbowls like the Patriots but he brings the ratings and viewers to the league. So Kraft has added a few trophies to his case...Jerry has added billions in revenue for the league.

Jerry wins.

The league has hurt themselves with controlling content too much.
The ratings are hurting because of millennial fans are not tuning in as much. They try to promote fantasy football and Madden to attract young viewers. But fantasy turned out to be a scam and Madden franchise has been lazy and resting in their name because they bought the exclusive to keep NFL2k out.

The NFL is the only major pro sport that only deals in exclusive license deals. It hurts viewers that can't get NFL games anywhere without directv and stupid local blackout laws. Every other sport has game passes on all major cable operators. They don't cut off all content that is up against a local team that may suck like the NFL does.

They will need to give up a little control if they don't want to continue to watch their ratings slip.

Is it any wonder that NFL TV ratings are down ~10%...
The no fun league stuck in the past.

A few reasons for this

1. Cord cutting
2. Political climate right now, it's politics first, sports second for most people (Really how it should be, to be honest)
3. Bad matchups, if I remember reading correctly, Fox is actually doing alright due to having better matchups

We can discuss the NFL drama, but I doubt that factors in much. The ratings would have dropped a while ago. But the NFL needs to hurry up and get a handle on the first, as I said, a type of subscription like streaming service needs to be made by the NFL. Sunday Ticket is old school, overpriced, and it'll continue to plummet alongside cable.

This reminds me very much of the music industry. People will resort to free choices rather than having to spend countless money on

nfl game pass was horrible.
i canceled it during the trial.
the password screen did not work despite multiple complaints.

I'm talking live NFL streaming. Right now, all it has is rewind and preseason games. Regular season is the draw. Until then, the NFL is behind. It's better to get a jump on these things before you lose viewers and have to rebuild a base.

No reason for a multi-billion dollar industry like the NFL to not have something like this set in place already.

It's so funny to me how they don't have a subscription service. Whoever decided to exclusively license their brand, in an era of streaming media content, to brick and mortar subscription services like directtv, should be dusting off his resume 6 months ago.

That is a complete misstep. Anyone with eyes saw that was a bad deal. You have Netflix, Hulu, all these streaming services becoming billion dollar machines, with instant media services like Twitter, facebook, spotify, etc while free *blackhat* streams become more easily accessible, and that's what they go with? Come on man!

It's a minority that are going to jump through hoops and get locked into contracts just to watch a few games when they can go turn on the computer, visit a link, and have it free in 2 minutes.

At the same time, most of those would gladly pay a small free ala Netflix.

But now they have to follow the guidelines of the contract while they sit back and watch their business model become prehistoric until it ends.

It's things like that which really make me doubt any of this "integrity" of the game stuff. It's a hobby for billionaires. Fortunately, they have to win to really cash in. And say what you want about ol Jerry, at least he cares.

Absolutely agree.
The league is like old style communism - want centralized planning to govern all valuable assets.
However, they are in the entertainment industry and they are restricting individual teams from marketing the product to their customers.
The teams, fighting in the trenches, are far more adaptable and can react faster.
They need to can existing management and put together a management for the 21st century.

Controlling it's own content is abusing it's power? Nonsense.

you must have missed the "team-generated" part.

what's crazy is that a fan can upload video from their smartphone in real time, but the team can't.

The larger problem being that the NFL is still shorting us all by hiring part time referees. Pay them what it takes and have everyone studying film and finding a way to get better at thier craft year round because to this day officiating still sucks. Officiating should be a full time job. Rules in plain English would help also. If I was the NFL Id be sensitive to my crappy officals also.

That Maras, Browns, and Richardsons of the NFL will need to die off first. They are anit-labor and pro-collusion to the hilt.
