Jerry beats Wade, 65 to 63!

dcfanatic;3031056 said:
Why? Explain.

Because it's ridiculous. Do you really think any player cares what Jerry does? I doubt a single person on the team knew that Jerry had a 2 minute lead over Wade.

I doubt any would care to know.

Furthermore, who gives a piss what the players think of it. That isn't their job.

Speaking of jobs.

I wonder if behind the scenes any players have even been bold enough to tell him that his place as the Owner/GM isn't to be out doing interviews once every 24 hours, but that it's making sure this roster is filled with players who can help the team win games.
You don't think Jerry does this? The guy has the reputation of being a free-wheeling FA splash guy but he doesn't fulfill this obligation? Give me a break. Not every move he makes works out like we all would hope but he sure as hell isn't sitting on his ***.

How could anyone even say that Jerry doesn't do everything he can to fill the team with talent.

Signs high quality FAs.......check.

Keeps high quality FAs......check.

Trades for talent.............check.

But lets say he doesn't do any of that. Lets just say he doesn't do anything he can to try and improve the team. Lets just pretend for a second he's a bum who does nothing.

What are you expecting him to do in October? He just made a move that everybody (except me) seems to love in bringing in Rossum. What more can any GM do in October to improve his team?

This thread sucks because it looks like another thread where someone is satisfying their hate hard-on quota over something completely nonsensical. Comes off as someone trying to use any angle possible to throw mud and then disguise that mud slinging as some sort of question about what the players think.

Jerry was on The Fan for this two wekly segments, his appearance on Leno and his impromptu press conference this week.

He totaled 65 minutes.

Wade Phillips did four press conferences, one radio show and one conference call with the Atlanta media this week.

He totaled 63 minutes.

Find me another professional sports team that had the Owner/GM be more accessible to the media than the head coach in any one week period.

The Dallas Cowboys didn't make any huge roster moves this week.

The Dallas Cowboys didn't make any trades nor were there any media rumors about any big trades. (In fact Jerry made it public that the Cowboys were even offered one.)

The Dallas Cowboys didn't have any players suspended or called into the league office about anything that would require some response from the owner/GM.

So why did we need 65 minutes of Jerry Jones this week?

He's not the coach who is preparing the team for the Falcons.

He's not part of the medical staff who is deciding which players are healthy enough to play on Sunday.

And he's not going to be wearing a helmet on Sunday.

I know many of you will say yeah we all aready know he's a pain in the rear end, but I wonder what the players/coaches must think of him.

I wonder if behind the scenes any players have even been bold enough to tell him that his place as the Owner/GM isn't to be out doing interviews once every 24 hours, but that it's making sure this roster is filled with players who can help the team win games.

Too easy,.. Mark Cuban Dallas Mavericks

Great post. I also do not understand the upset about the picking his nose thing. Oh my gosh, Jerry picks his nose. This is a revelation? But none of these people upset about it do right? Or is it that they do, but not on TV? Okay, so it must be that they aren't interesting enough to be on TV in the first place. That too is Jerry's fault.

I don't care that he is accessible to the media and most GMs aren't. I care exactly about what you posted. he goes out and does what he is supposed to do in acquiring talent for this team. You miss on some, you win on some. There has never been a 100% perfect GM. Not even Tex Schramm who I consider to be the model all GMs should be aspiring to. Tex was criticized for being too visible too. Hey, we're the Cowboys. We matter. Welcome to reality.

I thought you were going to say he beat him at Madden.

dcfanatic;3030983 said:
So why did we need 65 minutes of Jerry Jones this week?
He is the face of the franchise. That franchise happens to be America's Team the Dallas Cowboys. The most high profile sports team in the country. That means ratings. So anything related to the Cowboys will always get featured starting with the face of the franchise. It may not be right, but that is the way it is.

Our owner has talked on the radio a little more than our coach.

That's good for at least 3 fumbles on Sunday and about 4 interceptions!

This is what I expected to see in response to this thread.

So if he's done all he can do then why does this franchise have ZERO playoff wins in the last 338 years. Seems like a loser mentality if you ask me.

And are you so naive to think he's not cutting into his GM duties when he's constantly doing radio shows and being the face of the franchise?

You can't see that his son Stephen plays a major role for him?

October. Then where are all the other GM's? They aren't doing radio shows are they? Maybe he could take off from one of those shows and work on getting Demarcus the ****ing contract he's been due for six months now.

What do you do when some of these players use the word 'coach' as they refer to Jerry? You think it's cute. I think it's pretty damn sad.

Of course that's not a problem for you. Because you are a homer who would swallow anything Jerry is selling. You have been swallowing it so long you have grown to love the taste of it. You have been swallowing up his BS for so long that you can't see this franchise is now the punchline.

Jerry can't see it. So why should you be able to.

You will see throughout this thread people saying the players love Jerry because he throws money at them.

Do you love you boss because he pays you? Does the next guy? Or that guy over there?

Of course not.

These players love Jerry because while he's throwing that money at them he's also providing them with a big fat umbrella to hide under while they make some side money off that star at midfield.

They love him because they don't have to win anything to feel like winners.

They love him because he doesn't challenge them when they constantly come up short on Sunday and then cash that fat check on Tuesday.

They love him because he's the rich goofy uncle/dad/grandfather who is not looking for real accountability because he's too busy making sure he's lined up for the next interview as the face of the franchise.

No longer do players look to go play for the Cowboys because it's going to lead to a Super Bowl. They go play for Dallas because they can get rich while that crazy uncle walks around entertaining everyone and talking how big his TV's are in the new stadium. There is no pressure to perform on a high level or else.

The man owns a football team. Yet he went on Jay Leno and answered nine questions. Not one of them had anything to do with what his QB, RB's, OL's, DL's, LB's, TE's, WR's, CB's, Safeties do while they are playing the game.

He had the questions beforehand and it never occured to him that not one question had anything to do with the actual game of football.

Read that last sentence again so it soaks into your brain.

People wonder why the players aren't focused on the game come Sunday. Why should they be. The guy who you says does everything he can to win games isn't 100% focused on the game so why should they be?

Jerry was so focused on building the bestestes stadium in the world for his football team to play football in eight times a year.

I read stories this week that the Cowboys were worried about how the sunlight coming thru the 6,000 windows was going to affect the players in a day game, lol.

Yeah, he had football on his mind as he was building Jerry World.

Which NFL owner would have kept Jerry as the GM for all this time without some results? He doesn't exist.

The NFL is about results. Other NFL owners are forced to fire people who are not providing those results. But because this egomaniac appoints himself as the GM he skirts the system.

His partners, the other owners, love to see this guy running around up selling his team too because it helps them out.

Best part?

They know he's going to have to get might lucky in putting together a team that can challenge their teams. And they have thirteen years worth of evidence to back this up.

Pretty much what I thought. This thread was nothing more than you finding another way to skin that cat. I especially like the "don't agree with me, you're a Jerry slurper" part. Truth is, nothing could be further from reality. I criticize the guy when he deserves it and give him credit when its due.

I actually agree with your assessment of the player's feelings towards Jerry but it also raises the question of why you "wondered what they think of him" if you are so sure of what they think of him. You weren't wondering at all. Just using it as a crutch to take shots at Jerry.

Nothing really new here, just new packaging. I especially like the part about how other teams have 13 years of history to back up their thought that Jerry will have to get lucky to put a team together. But again it leaves me with another question.

Why choose 13 years? Oh, wait......don't bother answering, its painfully obvious why you would choose 13.

Yeah. My whole life I have waited for this opportunity.

I think I stated at the end why I posted the thread.

To see what you guys think the players think of Jerry.

But you just skipped right over that part.

This is a forum where discussions are supposed to take place, but it is really?

It is a free country and for the most part a free forum but why is this so relevant a topic to you - especially since it has been significantly threaded and posted about, in this and other forums, for a good number of years.

As been cryptically posted on this thread "marketing pays the rent". You forget that this franchise was in a financial death spiral when Jerry acquired it. Now it is one of the most valued franchises if not the highest valued franchise in the NFL. Without Jerry's visibility we would not be playing in a new one of a kind stadium or still attracting marquee players, coaches and sponsors.

At least Jerry has the testicular fortitude to put himself out on the line and commit to this franchise with pretty much all the financial resources he has. Yeah he annoys me too at times but I am glad we have not only Jerry but the Jones family.

Obviously the Cowboys and Jerry remain very newsworthy and if he is relevant to the sports media and even Jay Leno - so why would anyone self-righteously smirk over that. I am quite sure he didn't beg to get on the show. Also some of you that complain about him seeking attention are a bit off the mark.

It is not like he is talking about his oil wildcatting or college football playing days or exclusively detailing his great accomplishments with the franchise. No, Jerry is talking primarily about the Cowboys, not only what is going good but also answering what has been going bad including falling short of our expectations.

Even answering cheapshot questions like why the Cowboys built this billion dollar "gaudy" stadium during a recession, when we all know the planning and building process commenced long before the recession tangibly materialized.

No apologies necessary Jerry, keep promoting the value, goodwill of our organization and team despite our struggles. That takes cajones and conviction!

Read again.

I wondered what the fans thought the players thought of him.

And I have backed Jerry at times and bashed him at times. Is that ok? Yeah, it's called being a fan.

I don't have to love or hate anyone or anything about this team. For some of you that's the way it is. You can't say nay about anyone or else you hate them and you can't say yah about anyone or else you love them.

It's stupid.

How dumb is it to question me on the 13 years. You're still living in 1995 I guess.

'Well we didn't win this year, but we did win in 1995' - LOL.

Sounds like a beaten down fan with no hope and one is just willing to accept this team for what it is. You might as well just come on here and write 'blah, blah, blah' in every post.

But what I do know is this. There is no one on this forum with the requisite football knowledge who could turn this franchise around. Yet, we have people on both sides of the fence swearing they know how to turn the franchise around.

ROFL.

Awesome.

Jerry Jones is worth more money than God.

And we get to watch a team who never wins anything.

YEAAAHHHHH!!!

That's why I watch sports. Because I want to root for the team who is worth the most money. I love it when I see all the ads and commercials pimping products way more than I love seeing the team win games.

Wait. Stop playing the games. They should put their uniforms on and walk around the field doing mini commercials for three hours.

That's a great idea.

I'm going to call Jerry right now.
