Jerry doesn't care as much about winning as he cares about 'winning his way' or 'winning with his boys'. If Jerry cared about winning first and foremost he'd get himself and his family out of GM roles and let a GM do his job. We also would have a different head coach.

Garrett as coach
Marinelli as DC, Tampa 2, that was Dungy and Kiffin scheme, 10-38 as head coach
No FA signings
Callahan, lol
But his wallet getting fatter and fatter but we haven't won since 1995.

I'm just venting, It's just sad that our team can't compete year in year out but always has the highest grossing team and always have the highest ratings on TV.

I feel like a Knicks fan :(

to make matter worse it looks like Eagles took major step forward & have superior defense and possibly franchise QB. Dallas isn't running on that team in for foreseeable future and better start figuring out how to upgrade WR with added speed to keep Philly D honest.

He cares. But the team winning isn't his #1 priority. If it was, he would have hired a real general manager as soon as he bought the team. For him, winning is only "worth it" if it glorifies him. He'd rather the team lose with his fingerprints all over it than watch them win without his fingerprints.

I have a family member who owns a farming operation. Probably over a million dollars' worth of land and water rights and tractors and balers and barns. But he's not actually a farmer. He's a rich oil guy who likes to unwind after a day at the office by sticking a piece of straw in his teeth and riding a tractor and dressing up and playing pretend. His farming operation would yield better results if a real farmer ran it for him. But he doesn't care, because it's only fun for him if he gets to be the one who's playing farmer. That's basically Jerry when it comes to the football stuff. The team would've succeeded more if he backed away from the football side of things and stuck to the business/deal-making side where he is actually competent. But that just wouldn't have been as much fun for him.

Jerry's gotten better about backing off than he used to be. Long stretches of time occasionally pass where you don't even notice his fingerprints on things. And then he wakes up from a nap and decides the team needs him now, so he bursts through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man, determined to join the party and announce his presence with authority. So he trades a 1st rounder for Roy Williams to come be our 4th option in the passing game. Or he signs creeps like Hardy. He's so desperate to be the one who gambles on whatever move puts us over the top again so that all the stories will be about how shrewd Jerry was to make the move that got us there. He's dying to be praised and credited and loved.

There are areas where he's genuinely useful. He's good at recruiting undrafted free agents. He's good at negotiating draft-day trades (whether the players we pick actually pan out or not, he's good at making the deals to move up or down).

But he's useless for evaluating player personnel. He's given away the store too many times when trading for "name" veterans. And he's not any good at managing the big-picture salary cap situation (he's landed us in cap jail multiple times, and he routinely saddles us with too many millions in dead cap money -- which might've come in handy and made the difference during seasons where we only missed the playoffs by 1 game or we only lost a playoff game thanks to 1 play).

Jerry does not consciously choose for the team to be worse with him as the GM. He honestly believes it gives them the best chance to win. He thinks other GMs are short sighted in the decision making because they have to worry about their jobs. He also believes they don't have the same leeway to take chances that he gives himself.

It's obviously delusional thinking after some number of losing years, but it's what he believed all those years.

It is quite obvious he would rather be comfortable and lose than hire a real coach. Perhaps if we ever surround Garrett with an all star roster he may win it all as long as we are good enough to have such a gap in the score where football decisions are unimportant and Garrett can't screw up the clock management for the umpteenth time. Of course as long as we keep shopping in the bargain bin for free agents then we will never have a roster good enough to overcome Garrett.

Jerry has himself convinced he cares.

But an owner who genuinely cares about winning would hire people who gave the organization the absolute best chance of winning. Which means a willingness to take a backseat to others who could run the football side of things better than he can.

In that sense, no, he does not care about winning.

Jerry cares about winning...He cares about money a little bit more though. His antics of the past few weeks has shown me that.

Honestly I think Jerry’s issue is that he started listening to the criticism. I actually enjoyed crazy Jerry firing coaches, signing TO, etc because he was always swinging for the fences. He didn’t like the criticism so he went Garrett and thinks he’s building something. But he isn’t and now he’s too stubborn to go back

My interest in the NFL and the Cowboys has reached an all time low after 36 years of fandom. The NFL has become too intertwined in politics and their own court system. It has ruined the game for me. They just need to shut their traps and play ball.

You should protest.

Self-Immolation while wearing a Cowboys Jersey would work.

He don't care about winning a SB if he cared he would of shored up the defense or kept some of last years guys. Jerry is making millions selling ten dollar tacos and miller lites at the palace to care about winning games. Win or Lose Jerry makes millions off fans...it's been what 20+ years without a SB .....if you would of told me the cowboys would not win a sb in 20+ years after 95 I would of told you...crazy talk but now look at us...pathetic.

Like I said, he has gone full Al Davis. He is a distraction and now had created locker room issues when there was none.

It's true, he could have signed big name free agents like the Giants did. Blow all your money on making a better defense, right? Callahan? what's your point? He took the same job with a rival team who finished last in the division in 2016. Cowboys win almost every game last year and as soon as they lose a few, someone needs to pay.

When they blow every penny they have on overrated expensive free agents people cry about it. When they try and do it through the draft, people cry about it. They had a decision to make on their DB's last year. There will be learning curves. Maybe getting a MLB and a SS who can actually play is a good start. I bet they will sort that out.

But this is great news for SmartFans™. If things spiral out of control the Cowboys could lose a lot of their remaining games. That would guarantee a top ten draft position, maybe even top five.

For me it's also because the league is becoming more and more like gymnastics and figure skating. Not in the sense of the sport itself, but meaning you have to wait for the judges (refs and replay officials) before you know who actually won.

The rules are absolutely insane, and the rulebook is completely open to interpretation and not black and white at all. I finally watched that Jets call, and the level of idiocy in understanding all the nuances of is this a fumble or not is crazy. Even officials disagree on all the levels of possession required and where they have to happen. I won't even get into defining what's a catch.

Admit it - whenever a big play happens, where does your thought process immediately go? What is one of the first things the announcers say? It takes away from the game to me.

This is the either/or defense of the FO. You don't have to overspend the tippy top guys in free agency, and you don't have to bottom feed on the Nolan Carroll's. There is actually a TON of space in between. This FO will not pay for the middle of the road "good enough" guys anymore. Or maybe they simply can't identify them.

And it's not just about the latest two home losses. Plenty on here hated Red's in game decisions and Rod's scheme and this method of free agency even during the 13-3 run. We win in spite of that crap, not because of it.
