So.....Jerry purchased the worst team in the NFL. Hired coaches, made decisions back when he was much more involved than today, managed to win 3 super bowls. Since then, he has hired from within, without, HOF coaches, new coaches, let Parcells buy his own groceries, provided the groceries, put together a team that is now drafting with great success while listening to coaches, gives his players nothing but the best places to train, practice, and play.................but you guys think he doesn't care and doesn't know what he's doing. Cowboys fans are so spoiled, having won 5 super bowls and lost 3.
If you think it's easy to win a SB, why have the Eagles never won one, yet we are so envious of their current situation just because they've won some games to start the season. With the salary cap and all the other rules that are designed to create parity, it is harder to win a SB than ever. And even when all the pieces are there, be they QB, OL, defense, coaching, front office....even then there's a heck of a lot of luck involved.
Garrett and Linehan may not be the best (heck, they aren't my first choices if I was given a choice), but they are both good enough to lead the right team in the right year to a SB title. Marinelli? I'm not so sure. I, for one, am glad Jerry isn't changing coaches every 3 years like some teams. You guys would have dumped Tom Landry after his many years of failure and disappointment, after his stupid ideas like thinking his system was more important than the players and even alternating QB's on every play. I may feel differently in a few years, but right now I believe in the direction the Cowboys are headed after years of poor drafting and poor coaching and even uninspired effort. Even Jimmy Johnson had to tweak the whole thing by firing his own OC to bring in Norv Turner, along with trading for Charles Haley before getting it right.
On the one hand, Garrett has had plenty of time, but on the other hand, even with Romo, he never had the OL or the defense to sustain anything. Heck, he wasn't even in charge of hiring his own coaches and coordinators for a while there. This team is improving and on the right path, in my opinion. The defense has to get to at least an average status in the next couple of years, but even if the defense becomes dominant, there's never any guarantee of a SB run....it just ain't that easy.
