I'm convinced that Jerry is thinking, "screw it, we've gone 23+ years, let's round it off to 30"...

Jerry said this in January of this year. Jerry is trying to sell to the masses that Garrett would be sought after, if they released him to set the stage for his extension.

But guess what Jerry, we will gladly take that bet, just like you said not to take the bet on Jason being fired this season..

Exactly. If you think so much of him, extend him then. He’s trying to sell his optimism to the fans and the fans aren’t buying it.

It's amazing if there are actually some fans out there who still buy this garbage!!!

The Jones' have been blowing smoke up Cowboy fan's ***** for so long and so often it's beyond ridiculous. I remember the clown show trying to convince anyone that would listen that "several teams have contacted us regarding a trade for offensive and defensive linemen". Obviously, they were just trying to create their own market as NOT ONE trade took place.

Tom Landry, Bill Bellichek were also not successful in their beginning stints. Garrett had a better success than them for first few years.

Also they didnt have to deal with Jerry. They were the pseudo GM and coach. Makes all the difference.

here goes the Tom Landry bogus comparison. First of all, Landry has to built a team from ground up, pre free-agency. Bellichek has to rebuild the Browns as well to an 11-5 record, before their owner the next year decided to bounce mid-season to Baltimore. Bellichek in post free-agency turned the Patriots around immediately.

There are plenty of coaches in this era, including McVay that have had success in the beginning. Garrett walked into an already talented roster and didn’t do jack squat with it. Guys like McVay turned around QB busts.

Before you laugh, keep in mind Jerry has the ears of 31 other owners and GM around the league. So it's not a reach to think he would know Garret's value around the league.

If Jerry really loved the Cowboys, he would send JG to Washington.

This will not over well with fans........lol

Classic Jerry. Call him a top coach at the beginning of the statement but then admit by the end of it things could change over the rest of the season.

There is no way in the world he can resign Garrett to an extension if this team misses the playoffs, or worse, just bombs out starting Sunday. He's naive. He's loyal. He's stubborn. He says dumb things. But he knows this fanbase will explode if the Cowboys go 6-10 and he then announces a new 3-4 year extension for Garrett.

For all that are saying this is Jason's last year and that he'll be fired after the season, read the tweet again... More specifically read the very last couple sentences... For the last time Jason Garrett isn't going anywhere.. Mark my words...

What?

The last few sentences say the opposite. It's Jerry leaving the door open that at the end of the year if things are bad, he can change his mind.

As others pointed out, if Jerry truly believed Garrett was one of the best coaches in football and would be highly sought after on the open market, then why not extend him now? For all intents and purposes, Garrett is a FA anyway after this season. Once that final second rolls off the Cowboys season, if Jerry doesn't sign him, Garrett's agent could put feelers out for other jobs.

So if Garrett truly is an elite coach, why not extend him now?

He's trying to sell his fans a steaming load of crap but few are buying it.

Jerry , Jerry , Jerry , you praising JG doesn't make him a good NFL head coach ; just like smothering a plate of crap with a mountain of whip cream doesn't make it a delicious sundae........................................
