Jerry has to be negotiating with MM right now right?

If Mike interviews with da Bears, what are the odds Jones decides to move on to another HC?
Well if Jerry gives the Bears permission to speak to Mike about the open HC position, that kinda says alot

….and yes, until Jan 14th other teams need Cowboys permission to even talk to him as he is still technically our HC unfortunately IMO

Jerry may have wanted MM back, but he was taking the temprature of the fan base, and I think MM is done. he can't deal with the clown show at GM and Owner. But Jerry will spin it as if he didn't want MM. people in NFL circles know
Makes a ton of sense and could very well be the case.

If I’m Mike I just wait it out until the 14th, and if I don’t get a job I’ll take a year off and be in the mix next year.

Wouldn’t shock me at all if Mike has more teams willing to hire him than Jerry does of the number of people who are better being willing to work for him, for cheap. The level of attractiveness of the Dallas HC job is part of Jerrys delusional outlook.

Unless Jethro is being real cheap. and is looking for an even better bargain.
I agree letting him talk to others is a hint but you never know

I really don’t even see the significance of the permission. They only have to wait a week. They probably did it as some sort of courtesy.

The back and forth with Slater should tell everyone all they need to know about how petty Jerry is. “I don’t want someone who doesn’t want to be here…”

Meanwhile Mike has to look out for himself. I think he is going to want a big raise to stay, and we know how thats going to end up.

His contract doesn't expire until the 14th. And you know how the Jones clan negotiates deals - the last minute.

With the hay already being in the barn I'm not sure they are talking right now. Jerry doesn't think rationally like most fans.
It expires today, Big Dog.

The Cowboys have an exclusive window to negotiate until January 14th. But, can give permission to other teams to interview McCarthy.

But, as of today, Big Mike is no longer under contract.

I'm only ok with MM coming back if he is stripped of play calling duties.
Yeah we need to keep a HC that Jerry needs to neuter and strip of duties. Then what, playcalling goes to Brian Schottenheimer? Or does he get fired and Jerry picks another OC?

With a competent GM we would try to hire a better HC and let him hire an OC and control who calls the plays.

It's certainly difficult to try to picture whats going on currently. I cant get a feel for it. But like I said yesterday, as a professional courtesy I would think Jerry would give the Bears an answer today. Yes you can meet with MM or no you can't. Holding everyone hostage, while it may be his right, is such a scummy trash thing to do.

Well Bears might not want to wait as the cast of available HC candidates may dwindle down as other teams snatch up the good ones. Unlike our GM who will wait til the very last minute to move on when there is no one decent left just to sign some ol geezer has been who’s system of football has long past.
Jerry should let Mike go now while there is a higher chance of some other bozo crazy enough to take him on

Since when does Jerry care about what the fan base wants.
since he wants the fringe and casual fans to be ok....he is marketing and media driven. he doesn't much care about die hard fans who really understand the game and invested. that's a smaller portion of his fanbase.

and he was worried about empty seats and boos in the stadium after 3-7 start..... there were rumors he was trying to see the reaction of the fanbase if he brings MM back.

I’m not sure of what the rules are these days as far as the window to interview candidates that are coordinators of teams that are still in the playoffs, but it definitely isn’t not allowed, and also not gonna happen this week.

Other than the Patriots hiring Vrabel, I wouldn’t see any of the vacancies being filled before the 14th.

It may have been the Bears being able to formally say they are interested without tampering.

My guess is once Vrabel finds his landing spot (Pats I assume) the dominos will start to fall- especially with the Jets.

his contract isn’t up for another week or two

He’s waiting until the media covers it more than they cover the playoffs

I am not a fan of Mike's play calling, time management, team prep for big gams, team discipline etc.. In other words, not much. However, if they bring him back, we have to have a new OC.

This situation different from many in that MM isn’t under contract. So Jerry can’t simply announce that he’s bringing him back. But, if he didn’t want him back, I’m pretty sure he would have announced that already.

Since it’s a mutual decision anything can still happen, but I have to think that they are in negotiations to bring MM back.
It's all so bizarre I don't know what to think. At face value it appears that Jerry stuck MM with a crap roster and then embarrassed him further with this lame duck season where it has always appeared that he would be fired at the end. It seems intentional and you have to wonder if there's some animosity there. If I were MM I'd be taking this personally and wouldn't want anything to do with a Jerry going forward. Who knows what's actually going on behind closed doors though.

Yeah I think MM is ready to roll. In him hiring a new agent who is known to get the big bucks, I have a feeling JJ gonna let him go but might drag it out just cause he can.
