Bobhaze, I agree with your post. If the new HC will impove the team but take away camera time from bogger do not expect that coach will be here. There are 2 coaches that fit this bill, JJ and the Tuna, and they both did not last long. Now Chan, Wade and Campo did not fit that bill and they all 3 bit the dust early but neither were taken TV time away from bogger either and neither got the team any success.

Don’t kid yourself… They are out there. The idea of it being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is intoxicating. Who would’ve ever thought Bill Parcells would agree to come here? Yet, it happened.

But the Tuna was going to do it his way or the highway. He wasn't going to be a puppet.

Serious question…

If Jerry was such a hell-bent on being the absolute center of attention, why would he relinquished player personnel control to Stephen and Will McClay? That doesn’t mesh with that opinion.

Tim MacMahon had the cojones to ask jeri hard questions and now he's covering the Mavericks.

I wonder what who caused that??

look at how pissed jeri is at Tim's question:

I saw that interview a few years back. Probably about 7-8 years ago. The only things that have changed is Jerry’s older and under his “leadership” the team continues in mediocrity. McMahon is an excellent reporter. I’ve heard him ask Mark Cuban some tough questions too.

Apparently you missed Jerry’s terse interview yesterday on his weekly Dallas radio show. When asked who makes all final decisions, he made it clear that he still has “the final say”.

I think Jerry has 20 years left, I really do. He will get the best of medical care and could easily live to be in his mid 90s. He lost his mind 15 years ago and that hasn't stopped him from being the architect of the all-special teams draft, drafting a cold weather specialist kicker, trying to turn baseball pitchers into QBs, insisting his 2 billion dollar stajum end zones face east-west to ensure glare in players faces, and he even invited that hack George Strait to bring his half-baked brand of formula-based country to the stajum.

Like I heard someone say recently, when you're the head coach of the Cowboys, you have to win Super Bowls to get fired by Jerry

:laugh::lmao::laugh:
I haven’t heard it put that way .I think I’ll use that . Perfectly said.

Still not a guarantee, but if this team finishes as poorly as they have been playing lately, say 6-10 or 5-11, Jerry probably can’t justify keeping his personal Tom Landry anymore, despite wanting to.

But...IF Jerry has to hire a new HC, based on his history and a weird psychosis about not having a HC that can outshine him, don’t expect some big name guy to be named.

Because for some strange reason, Jerry is intimidated by real football people who have had major success. Rather than hiring a HC that gives HIS TEAM the best chance to WIN, he wants to hire someone that gives him the best chance to feel good about himself.

I’m sure someone with some expertise in psychology could write a book on why this billionaire is so insecure and even petty about his credentials. So bottom line....if Garrett gets fired, don’t expect some big name coach with a history of NFL success as a head coach to be hired. And I wouldn’t expect an up and coming young star college coach like Lincoln Riley either. It will probably be another mid-level NFL Asst Coach few have ever heard of.

Too much star power makes Jerry uncomfortable and intimidated. And by now, we should all know his personal comfort has top priority over winning.
He'll start by promoting Kellen Moore, and see how that works out for a few years.

Yep. Fans wanted to believe Stephen was taking over because I think it gives them more hope.

I’m not trying to take away fans hope but a false hope always sets us up for disappointing results.

If you have a problem child you’re always hopeful they might steer a different path but at some point you don’t expect it to happen. And you definitely lower your expectations.

I’ve never understood why fans struggle with this. We lower our expectations with less hope in many aspects in our life but when it comes to our favorite team we don’t seem to apply this logical attitude???

Jerry has stayed true to his word since Day 1. He’s going to run his football team his way. And he’s going to be involved with everything from jocks to socks.

Many of us said from the beginning we could only tolerate a hands on owner like this if he won. Which he did early and often initially. But I think fans got caught up in the hoopla believing that winning was a higher priority than doing it his way.

Jerry has said several times that it’s his team and even said the money he paid gives him the right to run his team anyway he chooses. It’s up to us how we react. Expecting him to change doesn’t appear a logical or reasonable expectation.

Jerry’s living out his dream at our expense.

I doubt Jerry is intimidated by good coaches. Jerry has poor judgement in evaluating people.
Jerry is a frustrated coach, he believes he is smarter than anyone, fired Tom, drove out Jimmy (or fired depending on who tells the story) drove out Parcells, Reeves didn't stay a day,Turner turned him down, yeah if you know football Jerry doesn't want you around telling him he is wrong. Jerry would be GM and Coach but NFL doesn't allow owners to coach so he hires a yes man. Jerry is AL Davis only difference is Al something about football. 20 odd years and the common link to mediocrity is Jerry and he is just to arrogant to see it. Troy see's it as well as most knowledgeable football people. Yes Jerry is intimidated by people who know football.

Five or even ten years of that (e.g. being the general manager) could have been motivated by immaturity, greed, etc. 30 years of that? That is pathological by definition. However, some observers still chalk it up as Jones simply being childish or hoarding every cent for himself because he loves money so very much. It is like the only way some people can understand him is by seeing Jones as some real life version of Dr. Seuss' The Grinch.

It’s not driven by money. He has all the money he’d ever hoped for. The revenue has simply provided the path and control to pursue his passion.

I was around Jerry in those early years on several occasions. Jerry’s passion is football. Has been since he was at Arkansas and then attempt to buy the Chargers.

He just didn’t want to be held directly responsible like a HC who could lose his job if didn’t have success.

Jerry has tried to tell and show us how much he loves what he’s doing. He wants to win more than anyone but not at the expense of giving up his passion or control.

I was in the insurance business for 30 years. Around many wealthy business owners and professional players.

Jerry’s behavior isn’t that unusual. I’ve seen this type of behavior many times. They just weren’t the owner of the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry bought into his favorite passion. Building, running and coaching a football team.

It would be like buying a restaurant and you insisted on cooking up every dish even if you werent the best cook for your business because cooking was your passion. I can provide other anologies.

Jerry isn’t a physcopath . He just wants to be a football guy. Lol

This video pretty much summarizes the root cause of the problem. Mr. Jones believes HE won three Super Bowls doing it “his way”. HE owns the team. The Cowboys are HIS. It is clear to all who have been following the team for the last 20+ years that simply winning is not the objective for Mr. Jones. He must have the credit for the winning and stepping away while hiring a capable GM is just not gratifying enough. As fans, we unfortunately have to accept that his hubris is part of the package. We’re more or less left with hoping that he gets lucky with his maneuverings or that winning somehow happens in spite of what he does. Even the few times he has done the smart thing— hiring Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells, for example— he ultimately wound up wrecking things in the end. No team, no organization can overcome such poor leadership.

That moment when Jerry brags about winning 3 SuperBowls as GM, then gets asked why his team has only won 1 playoff game game in 15 years is priceless! :lmao:

Jones is not a psychopath.

Perhaps part of the problem with observers of others' behavior is the false self-belief all possible disorders are one and the same.

Question: How many of those wealthy business owners or professional players used their status as justification to invent a title for themselves in order to legitimize their actions BEYOND what they could do AS 'an owner or professional'? Or did you simply observe them doing what they wanted to do without them hiding behind a pretense?
