Crayton's contract had 6 mil in guaranteed money, which is what would accelerate to the cap if he was traded. I assume the full amount would hit this year's cap.
i could be wrong but couldn't it be spead out since we are past week 2:confused:

Doubt it, because we're trading him not cutting him we assume the payout of his G.M. all in this years cap

If we get roy williams for patrick crayton straight up, that is a hell of a deal.

I doubt it. Probably be Crayton and a #1.

Something like

Crayton -> Miami
Cowboys #1 -> Detriot
Miami #2 -> Detriot
Roy Williams -> Dallas.

So:

Miami gets Crayton for a #2

Detriot get a #1 and #2 for Roy Williams

Dallas gets Roy Williams for Crayton and a #1.

I'm not sure Miami would give up a #2 for Crayton though. Maybe a #3.

Understand I am speculating!

Can we trade Bobby Carpenter for him. LMAO just kidding.

Miami gets Carpenter & Crayton

Dallas gets Roy Williams

Det gets 1st round pick from Miami, and 5 round pick from Dallas

Get down with the booginess

true.... didn't think of it like that

A player who is under contract with another team, can not talk about a new deal with a different team, until he becomes a part of that team

To clarify what I meant, Roy would sign a new deal with Detroit right before a trade, in order to meet the criteria for his new team.

Well-790 the ticket obviously has no time but to twiddle their thumbs b/c Patrick Crayton ain't going anywhere-he signed a big extension last year, and we would be taking a CAP HIT if we dump him.

Let me preface this by saying there is NO chance of this deal happening but....

Crayton's contract included a $6M signing bonus and base salaries of:

2008 - $1.5M
2009 - $1.5M
2010 - $2M
2011 - $2.5M

The remainder of his base salary would be pro-rated out of this year's cap and the entire $6M would be accelerated into this year. Cowboys are currently around $7.3M under the cap so it could be done.

Roy would presumably sign a contract extension that would lower his 2008 cap number and there are plenty of other adjustments that could be made to make this work.

Salary cap will not be the reason this doesn't happen. There are 10-15 other reasons it won't happen though.

Thats' taking into consideration that Det would trade Roy after he signs the contract.

The cap hit would be pretty significant, one would think.

I agree-I want Crayton gone, but NOT at this expense.

Guess, Im wrong but I can't see Craytons hit being that big.

We have no shot at winning a Super Bowl if we dont add another WR to the mix.

This sounds way to out there to be a real possibility. I just can't see us eating his bonus money in order to make this deal cause we have to turn right around and resign Williams to a new deal.

I would throw Carpenter in there to Miami just so we did not have to look at him anymore.

He got a new deal recently so his remaining bonus dollars would fall into this year. We are still 7 million under the CAP though so we should be able to afford it CAP wise.

isn't Roys contract now cap friendly so I say trade for him then in Nov. or Dec. redo it

Detroit would agree to let Dallas talk contract with Roy and then Roy and Dallas would agree in principle to a deal. It wouldn't actually be signed until AFTER the deal otherwise Detroit would take the hit for the signing bonus.

Why would Miami part with a first round choice for those two players?

I have no idea.

If that's true, then you can just modify your statement to "we have no shot at winning a super bowl."

This is a highly powered sports car as it is. If we can't figure out how to drive it now, I doubt adding some extra horsepower is going to help.
