This is something that will be collectively bargained.

...and when the players get it changed it won't be because the owners believe it's what is best or worst for the players. It will be in exchange for something the owners want, like an even larger percentage of the profits.

What I am hoping for is more practice time allowed. That is another thing that is good for the league.

If guys want to do it so what. If it affects their game they get cut and pump gas for a living. It's still gonna be down to life choices. Just like it is now.

Do not agree.

Plus, anyone who seriously abuses weed will not be able to play professional football at a high level and will not make it in the league anyway.

As a pain or stress management tool, I have zero issue with players using marijuana.

Alcohol is much worse IMO yet it is not only tolerated by the NFL, it's one of their top endorsers.

Sorry Chris in AZ, I was being facetious.

Goodell and the owners (except Jerry) are hypocrites. They care about the players as much as Kim Jong-un cares for his fellow North Koreans.

That is exactly an example of the owners "giving up" something to get what they want. They offered less practice time in exchange for a higher split of the revenue.

The National Institute of Drug Abuse would consider how much weed Randy Moss or Mark Stepnoski smoked to be serious abuse. They played the game at the highest level.

Here's what I've never understood: in cases like Gregory's, it should be considered medical marijuana. And in those cases, it should absolutely be legal. He has a legit medical condition that is helped by the stuff.

Never mind the fact that it's legal in a ton of states, that none of the other major sports leagues care about the stuff, or that beer is 100 times more harmful, but is a freaking sponsor of the sport that bans players for using a substance much less harmful.

Either a new CBA or Goodell is pushed out, don't see it happening before then. It's one of the more ridiculous things in sports IMO.

That is nonsense. The NFL's role is not law enforcement.

Is the role of my employer law enforcement? Is the role of most of them? Yet they have drug policies in place. We can be tested and if we test positive, we can be fired. I don't see anything different here.

If you take part in a legal activity, then your employer has the right to take action on that activity. Right now, smoking marijuana is an illegal activity on the federal level. The NFL is not law enforcement because it cannot put you in jail for that activity, but it can punish you as your boss, and I agree that it should as long as it is illegal.

Last time I checked the owners voted. If it is polarizing is besides the point when it only takes 17 to pass it.

And they can amend the CBA at anytime. It remains negotiable between now and 2020.
They table even silly rule changes. You think that many owners want this to make it pass?

Not sure about Moss except to say he was a unique athlete, but Stepnoski used it for pain management/after games no?

Not to mention that many of them are hopped up on opioids, barbiturates, muscle relaxants, and all manner of prescription drugs that are much more intoxicating.

I worked with a former offensive lineman for the Cowboys in the early '80s and I heard some stories. It was wild. That's all I'll say.
