Jerry Jones Doesn't Expect Cowboys To Be Big Spenders In Free Agency

The problem with most free agent guys is that you're almost always overspending for them to some extent... certainly there have been many well-paid free agent signings who have lived up to their big FA contracts, but it's a relatively rare occurrence (especially for this team over the years lol)

This is why I've been saying it needs to be done with deftness and precision

They may have but, did Revis win a SB...nope. Brady and that offense did with Belicheat at the helm.

Revis was very, very much a part of that SB winning team. If they don't have Revis, they don't win.

We all feel differently, so it goes. I suspect the folks that don't want that big signing will be the ones that get their wish. And it doesn't mean we are doomed or any such. Just means it's time to start to build the D, and build it fast. :)

It's okay...I'm not sure I agree but, your view is understandable. I just continue to affirm that the Cowboys have stopped their free spending ways and will only
buy FA to fill holes and select foundational players in the draft. Seems to be working.

Jerry has to take advantage of having Dak Prescott on that rookie contract. We need to go after at least 1 big name on the defensive line and probably another corner too. The draft is a crap shoot if you're solely depending on it to fill your needs. Teams will be leap frogging the Cowboys again in the draft trying to get any defensive end on the board knowing the Cowboys need that position filled.

Fair enough, LittleD. We shall see :)

Can we sticky this thread?

So that when another fan comes up with another extravagant, pie-in-the-sky wish list, we can point to this.

the Cowboys have stopped their free spending ways
they have never been big free spenders.......they are drafting better but the cap has gone up 40m+ in the last 4 years

It went from 123m in 2009 to 123m in 2013.....that is flat

DAL is doing the exact same things they have always done.....what they need to do is come out of the comfort zone a little and spend some money to fill some holes.....we aren't operating under the flat cap era rules any more

I hope the Cowboys don't play that game like they did last free agency. We could've had Eric Weddle but Stephen didn't want to match what Baltimore gave him.
I lost all hope of getting an impact player in free agency after reading the story on how we lost out on Weddle.

We need pass rush but I have no reason to believe we will get it from free agency. So we better hope a stud pass rusher is available at the end of the first round this year.

Cedric Thornton, heading into this season, was a very similar/equivalent player to JPP is at End. An upper echelon 1tech.
JPP isn't going to cost 4-5 million though, he's gonna be at least 10-12 million, possibly more. I could see Dallas signing Jaball Sheard from the Patriots though.

They will and always do. It's just that Stephen and McClay shop in the bargain bin after the big contracts have been given out. They will do the same thing next year just like this year.
TO was a pretty good investment but, Mr. Hardy was horrible and probably closed the door on pricey acquisitions. In any case, Jerry will always spend more for offense than he will
for defense. He is sold on the fact that a great, time controlling, offense and an average defense can win the SB. Since the Patriots have done it, he believes he can too.

10-12 Million? Wonder what he would get paid if he had two hands.

Apparently Dallas had an offer for Eric Weddle that he almost took. Had to sleep on it, and ultimately chose another team since they had a better chance of playoff run.

So, he was a pretty big name. And he chose wrong.

Next year, this team looks more appealing - may tip the scales our way.

Not really....Weddle wanted to come here but BAL offered a little more.......he asked DAL to match and we said no

I just hate to think we lose out on good players because of a stubborn adherence to a theory....do they want to be smart and maybe come up just short or can they be wrong and maybe win it all.....DWare or JPeppers could have been the difference in 2014

The money and cap space is there to be aggressive

Guys like Norman, Vernon, Weddle, Trevathan can make a big difference and all they cost is money

If Chandler Jones is available how do you say no to him for this team?

Why did New England give away Chandler Jones for nothing?

The Patriots gave up a proven pass rusher, why were they scared to pay him?

I could see Dallas signing Jaball Sheard from the Patriots though.

I'm on board for that, if a fair price is reached.

Several of us here had Jabaal Sheard on our off-season wish list in 2015. Sheard has averaged 8.4 QB hits over the last five seasons.

Another free agent to be is Carolina Panther Charles Johnson.

Johnson is older than Sheard, but he's averaged 13.2 QB hits over the last five seasons.

Another Panthers free agent is Mario Addison, their reserve RDE. Add is averaging 9.8 QB hits over the last five seasons and 6.3 sacks over the last three.

DeMarcus Ware might be interested in re-joining the Cowboys with a chance to go out in story book fashion.

There are plenty of options set to hit the open market and few more will likely join the mix when teams decide to shed some expensive contracts.

I don't mind big spending as long as it is not a multi year deal. Since most big time players are looking for long term deals, no dice on that plan.
