Parcells fired Lacewell in 2004. Did he get invited back for sentimental reasons to the 2005 draft warroom? Few people did more to influence Jones' poor choices for the decade following Jimmy than Lacewell, and none did more to improve the roster post-Johnson than Parcells. But hey, lets bash Parcells and lionize Lacewell. :laugh2:

And they had to fight Parcells on the Ware pick, including forcing him to gush that Ware reminded him of Lawrence Taylor moments after the pick?

It's pretty easy to track the Cowboys personnel since Jimmy Johnson left. It went on a downhill slide when Johnson was fired, bottomed out after Johnson's talent got old, revived under Parcells, and has been in steady decay ever since Parcells retired.

Yeah, lets give Jones credit. For nearly 2 decades of personnel disasters.....

Parcells did a lot and deserves credit and while I think a lot of Parcells he was not buying the grocery at other places, he did not want Terry Glenn that is what caused and early rif in NE as BP would call Terry Glenn she. As Glenn produced Parcells and Glenn worked well with each other but fact is BP was not head of drafting any wheres, he clearly was involved as any coach would be.

This is pretty old news that has been discussed over and over on this forum in the past. It really doesn't do anything to change anyones mind one way or the other.

Jerry listens to his people....always has....

Just at times he listened to the wrong ones....

Like every coach Jerry has hired....Jerry listens to them....but there are time when Jerry listens to his scouts...or assistant coaches.

I bet Jason had some say when Wade was here. Wade in fact really liked Chris Johnson and we took Felix Jones.

It was like Herm Edwards talking about Carr.....he mentioned specifically that Carr was his personal choice....

Happens everywhere......do you think....with all the resources...money put into the draft....that it wouldnt be some kind of a collective agreement amoung the coaches...scouts....GM....even owners on who they like to choose in the draft....FA...etc.

Thats why its funny...when I hear.....Dallas doesnt have any football guys..

So who fought Jerry over Ebanezer Ekuban, Kavika Pittman, Dwayne Goodrich, Felix Jones, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson...and trading a first for Roy Williams.

Parcells wasn't perfect, but he did a remarkable job making this a legitimate NFL franchise after three straight 5-11 seasons.

While that's a great fact, and you have to give him credit for it, I wonder how many times he's missed. You need both of those facts to make any sort of decision about him and his ability to select talent.

I wonder how many misses each team president or GM has had in comparison.

Hutchinson and Henson were not drafted they were cheap low risk addition in large part because of major cap problems the Cowboys were dealing with. No doubt Lacewell and Jerry failed in picks and Ireland was brought in which was an improvement and looking at some of the picks that the current scouting department has helped to put together it is looking better than Irelands stint in Dallas.

Any pick good or bad in the end falls to Jerry

Is there really anyone here that didn't know this? This has to be the 30th or 40th story written about this subject and at least that many posts about it.

Tuna is the most over-rated coach in the history of the NFL and a guy who thinks of himself only.

How many draft picks did Bill Parcells have the final say on during his entire career? I am sure he had input on draft picks as any head coach would. His GMs all had input as well.

George Young was the GM with the Giants and is credited with bringing in most of those players.

Parcells famously stated, "They want you to cook the dinner; at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries. Okay?" while with the Patriots. This shows he didn't have the final decision there. He got overruled by the owner, Robert Kraft in drafting Terry Glenn while Parcells wanted a defender.

It was with the Jets when Parcells finally got the final say in draft picks. He didn't have it with Dallas although he had a lot of authority. He wasn't the GM with the Dolphins, but I am sure he had some influence on who was chosen. Most of his career, Parcells did not have the final say on who to draft.

You got it. I still think highly of Parcells the coach but he was never a personnel guy he did not hold that title no where he coached. When Miami brought him there as a consultant he did have more say than ever before but throughout his coaching career he did not pick players on his own and did not always get the guy he lobbied for

As a head coach? Maybe you can say Parcells was overrated the past two decades. But Cowboy fans must not remember how this team was constructed before he got here. There was a whole philosophy change. Cowboys were a joke before he got here. Anyone that doesn't acknowledge that simply forgot or wasn't a Cowboy fan between the Super Bowl years and the Romo years. He gave us credibility.

Sure and Ireland was a big part of that as well. BP did not come in here picking players. Yes he was involved all coaches are involved and I think he did help get Dallas out of a rut. Him coming to Dallas was big

And who brought both of them to Dallas?
