You got it. I still think highly of Parcells the coach but he was never a personnel guy he did not hold that title no where he coached. When Miami brought him there as a consultant he did have more say than ever before but throughout his coaching career he did not pick players on his own and did not always get the guy he lobbied for

 "Parcells' guys" were actually not endorsed/chosen by him, including all of the FA's?

Sure and Ireland was a big part of that as well. BP did not come in here picking players. Yes he was involved all coaches are involved and I think he did help get Dallas out of a rut. Him coming to Dallas was big

And who brought both of them to Dallas?

I don't disagree with that but let's remember that when we hired Parcells it was out of nowhere. Atleast that's how I Remember it. I never in a million years thought Jerry would hire a Parcells type who would want more authority than let's say a Dave Campo would.

Parcells brought Ireland in, Sparano, Sean Payton, etc. I didn't think much of him as a head coach honestly(I felt the game passed him by) but his impact sure as hell was felt here. I'm convinced that if the Cowboys never hired Parcells we wouldn't be where we are today.

And some will ask well what is that? I think since the Romo era we believe we have a chance to make the post season every year. It was never like that before Parcells got here.

Tuna is the most over-rated coach in the history of the NFL and a guy who thinks of himself only.

Let's see, he took the horrible Giants to multiple Super Bowls, then he took the horrible Patriots to a Super Bowl, then he took the horrible Jets to the AFC championship game, then he took the horrible Cowboys WITH QUINCY CARTER to the playoffs....

Not quite sure where you were during all that.

I think the Galloway and Roy Williams trades negate this.

An 8-8 team with 1 playoff win in nearly 20 years?

He was also the GM with the Jets. I didn't make that clear before. That is the only time he definitely had the final say in who was drafted. He didn't have that with the Giants, Patriots or Cowboys although I am sure his opinion was highly valued at all those places.

So, for some of the posters who think Parcells would have led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl title..........how would the Cowboys have been able to do so without one of the best pass rushers in the league?

Its not Parcells fault that we are underachieving. And i'd rather be 8-8 with 1 playoff win in nearly 20 years than going 5-11 every year like we were doing.

That's right, looks like Ware was a Jerry pick and not Bill P.

That might raise some eyebrows around here.

lacewell has no cred anyway; and since about the first thing BP did was to get rid of him then why believe anything he says?

The rumor was that BP wanted to take Spears first since he thought Bellicek would trade up to get him.

And it was only in the last month or so before the draft that Ware became a top 10 pick consideration

The combine really got him up from late first round; then his pro day cemented his POTENTIAL since he would be moving positions

how about the notable draft picks of Jerruh and Lacewell

we can start with 95 and work our way up

Lets see- what did we get from say 99 to 2001?

So I really do not think you want to go there

haters are going to hate do not expect knowledge

I happen to think that about the best coaching job done with the boys since 92 was when BP somehow coached the 2003 team to 10 wins.

Q as the QB; Hambone as the RB
you think about it and look at that roster and half the starters were OUT of the league in about 2 years.

So by that logic, Jerry wasn't the GM until around 2003? So you can erase those three Super Bowls from his resume. So why is he still around again?

Parcells was a good coach, but a horrible person.. try to find someone to say a nice word about him.

If Scott Norwood doesn't shank a very reachable field goal in the SB, handing the Giants the win, Parcells is just one more coach with a single ring.. He took credit for Lawrence Taylor, who was a guy that Ray Perkins drafted. Taylor was a game changer, and Parcells rode his coat tails.. I will say that getting to another superbowl with the Pats, and getting to the AFC championship game with the Jets puts him in the coaching stratosphere.

Thats fine.. no coach makes it without his players.. but...

Parcells left the Giants with almost no warning, and left only after Bellicheck left for another head coaching job.. Had he done the right thing, the Giants would have had Bellicheck as a head coach... Bill knew this and screwed the Giants.

Bill agreed to coach Tampa.. then changed his mind.... another bad guy moment.. who cares that this left Tampa in the lurch.

He then went to New England, when they had no where to go but up, and had a lot of draft picks coming their way... He then left there, and tried to go to the jets.. and when he wasnt allowed to, orchestrated some baloney where bellichek was the coach in name only... Again, no where to go but up.. the jets won like 3 or 4 games the year before him, but were a much better team than the record.

Bill's genious was going to teams that had bottomed out, so he could take credit when they marginally improved... Came to Dallas, then Miami... mission unaccomplished.

I used to work at a gas station in high school and he would come in.. a bigger jerk you couldnt find.. .more than once he was the victim of the empty oil can trick.

Its been a long time but I thought it was Parcels who wanted either Ware or Shawn Merriman and after meeting with the two Parcel's want with Ware.It had something to do with Merriman being a hotdog or something like that.Jones is just trying to help his own legacy,so far outside of hiring Jimmy Johnson he hasn't done much else right.
