Jerry Jones has no current plans to honor Tony Romo, for one intriguing reason

I think he'd get it back because he still has a high interest factor. But I don't think he can just walk out of the booth, resume playing football for the Cowboys and not be major rusty - especially after the surgeries and his age.

I agree with that last part too. How many weeks would it take him to get ready?

But I don't think CBS would keep that spot open indefinitely. The former players turned broadcasters list gets longer by the day.

What we are really talking about is whether Dak will get injured bad enough to miss several games and necessitate Romo's recall. Who can know such a thing? It's possible but not likely.

I always thought broadcasters worked contractually, maybe Tony has a buyout clause. Tony will probably chuckle when he sees his paycheck from cbs

I think CBS would absolutely LOVE it if Romo came out of the booth to play again. What an incredible public relations home run that would be for them. I think they're rooting for this, and I think it's part of the calculation for putting him in the No. 1 spot with Nantz.

I see no problem with it. The Giants have their guy:

The Eagles have their guy:

The Commanders have their guy:

They are all ready to go at a moments notice. Especially Sonny. Look at that physique!

He is still the back-up quarterback for drastic emergencies. He is not on the payroll at this time.

Frankly, this speaks to the business acumen of Jerry Jones. He has a starter waiting in the wings as needed.
I agree. I've mentioned this scenario to friends/family of Romo coming back in the event....well you know (won't type it)....and get a cross-eyed looks back. I don't care how lucrative his CBS deal is or how rare that position opens up.......the window and chances to play in the NFL I would think trump CBS in terms of money and opportunity.

I'm not seeing that.

How does losing your #1 announcer help? And one still trying to learn the job at that.

Totally agree. The amount of headlines CBS would generate would be too many to count. They'd be in a win-win situation.

There's a reason we're content with Kellen Moore as our "backup" quarterback. Stephen has admitted as much. Not sure what there is to argue about at the moment.

If Dak went out for the rest of the season, I have no doubt Tony will get a call, as he should.

But what if Dak is out for like 8 weeks in the middle of the season, but expected back after that. Would we call Romo, would he actually do it for that short period of time.....and what if he is successful like winning those 8 games in a row, would we still bench him.

Some of you act like Tony should be put in a home, maybe for your own agenda, but the idea is out there and it is real. So get over it.

Because you're suddenly at the center of the spotlight of the top story in the NFL. CBS has tons of people to fill in for a few weeks while you watch your EMPLOYEE play for the Cowboys. Imagine getting to cover an inter-conference game with your colleague quarterbacking in the most watched game of the season?

That's the greatest ratings bonanza imaginable.

If Romo is successful, you do the same thing you did last year. Leave him in.

I just don't see it.

Romo is supposed to go from the booth to the field? And back again?

I see a dream scenario that will never happen.

Not saying this is likely. Prescott is a young and sturdy.

However, what if the Cowboys are 3-3 and Dak is struggling? What if his play is hurting the team? That could be interesting.

No way!

If Dak tears a ACL or something, perhaps there is a scenario where Romo returns. But Romo coming back because the Cowboys are 3-3 and Dak is struggling? Assinine.

You let your young QB play through it. That's how he learns.

Not if you could have easily been 6-0 and your QB has 2 TDs and 8 INTs on the season.

I'm talking an unlikely implosion obviously.

Tony is NOT coming back to this team. Geez!

While I get the sentiment, I would say you are wrong. Its hard for me to believe that the conversation and parameters of Tony's return hasn't already been discussed and more than like placed in his contract with CBS. Didn't SJ say on the call with season ticket holders that they would call on Tony if needed? Do you think he would say that if it hadn't already been discussed by all parties and agreed upon, at least a gentleman's agreement? I think Tony has made his peace with his new gig but would return if asked and needed by the Cowboys. I do not think it would be for a game or two and then Dak returns. It would be if Dak is out for the season and the season is showing promise. If Dak goes down in week 13 and the Boys are like 5-8 or something, I doubt he would come back. But if we are at 10-3, he would.
