Jerry Jones has no current plans to honor Tony Romo, for one intriguing reason

When Tony Romo walked away from football for a career in football broadcasting, some wondered whether he’d return. While he hasn’t used the term “retirement” (he says it has 90 different meanings although in truth it has like two), his placement in a plum assignment at CBS makes a decision to abandon a gig he’d likely never get again highly unlikely, at best.

Still, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn’t ready to rule out a return from Romo. Via the team’s official website, Jones said Wednesday that the organization has “no succinct plans” to honor Romo publicly at the current time.

So why has Jones publicly honored linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who recently signed a ceremonial contract and retired as a Cowboys?

“DeMarcus retired and Tony hasn’t,” Jones said.

I fear that this will be the next topic of serious debate between fans, will he or won't he, come out of retirement?

Put me down for won't.

Not a wish or anything, but I'm going by what I see. A guy playing golf and preparing for broadcasting. Not a guy eager to give up the #1 broadcasting position on a network for a few games. One he would never get back.

He is still the back-up quarterback for drastic emergencies. He is not on the payroll at this time.

Frankly, this speaks to the business acumen of Jerry Jones. He has a starter waiting in the wings as needed.
And it keeps the cowboys in the news
Like him or not Jerry does know how to keep his team in the news

It's a remote possibility that Romo will return to the NFL but I highly doubt it would be with Dallas. That bridge burned down last October. Ash.

The team's future looks bright and Romo's post-football career does as well. Those are two good things to be thankful for.

I think he'd get it back because he still has a high interest factor. But I don't think he can just walk out of the booth, resume playing football for the Cowboys and not be major rusty - especially after the surgeries and his age.

Let me guess. Without even reading a post or the link ... he believes Romo is going to come back if the Cowboys need him.
I think Stephen said thats the plan if something happens with Das as well, probably a reason Romo hasn't actually retired either

I think it would take a season ending injury on Dak for Romo to comeback. And even then that is only for this year. Those saying he won't are deaf dumb and blind to how competitive he is and how disappointed he was on how his career ended.

Seems to me that Tony has moved on from being Dallas' QB to take his place in the broadcast booth. I honestly don't think Tony is interested in pursuing a return to the Cowboys for any reason whatsoever. Returning to the pro game after such a long layoff just isn't that simple.

For this year, I also think the Dallas FO is fully prepared to go with Kellen Moore as Dak's backup. Both Tony and the Dallas franchise have committed themselves to attending to the present and the future with no consideration of stepping back into the past. That boat has sailed.

I hope he doesn't embarrass himself, I worry he'll be injured in the booth let alone attempting to play football.

Are you kidding? The return of the prodigal son, to grab the reins and save the season.

That is a Hollywood script.

Say it with me.

If no one is interested in Romo there's only two reasons I can imagine since his appearance in Philly displayed how he can still play.

One , his injuries are worse than anyone has described . Two, he asking too much in a contract.

I felt initially there might have been some interest if Romo was a Free Agent but retaining Romo holding out for some compensation thwarted any interest since it was well known our intent on releasing him eventually which I believe drove Romo to making the TV deal and retirement.
