Jerry Jones has no current plans to honor Tony Romo, for one intriguing reason

Not if you could have easily been 6-0 and your QB has 2 TDs and 8 INTs on the season.

I'm talking an unlikely implosion obviously.
Theres nothing like short term thinking.

So you bench your future (or maybe current) franchise QB who is struggling and parachute in a guy straight from the broadcast booth to replace him? And the locker room is going to sit by and think this is OK? The team leaders will be fine? Even Jason Witten wouldn't be in favor of this. In this scenario, the players would mutiny.

If you want to destroy Dak's promising career and his presence as a leader in the locker room, this is the best way to do it.

I fear that this will be the next topic of serious debate between fans, will he or won't he, come out of retirement?

Put me down for won't.

Not a wish or anything, but I'm going by what I see. A guy playing golf and preparing for broadcasting. Not a guy eager to give up the #1 broadcasting position on a network for a few games. One he would never get back.

Not something worth debating unless Dak gets injured IMO since it's only something we'll deal with if we need to.

Now, frankly, I think it would be a difficult decision and might depend on the circumstances. If we're playing great and clearly look like a Super Bowl contender, there would be more incentive for him to leave the booth. If Dak got hurt at the beginning of the season before we really even know anything about this team, then I think it would be much more difficult to make the decision to return.

If he's good at the broadcast stuff, I also think CBS would fill in and hold the job open for him if it's only for a short period of time.

Not saying this is likely. Prescott is a young and sturdy.

However, what if the Cowboys are 3-3 and Dak is struggling? What if his play is hurting the team? That could be interesting.

Not for me. Dak is the QB now, whether he struggles or not (which I do not foresee).

But I know you're a big Romo guy, and I don't want to rain on your parade anyway.

Good call.

It's a huge hypothetical anyway, and like you said, I think it would take a perfect set of circumstances for it to even be considered.

I think it all depends on the severity of the injury to Dak and when it happens. If Dak suffered an injury like Bridgewater, in training camp, then the job is wide open, for Romo to claim, but quite honestly, it would probably derail his broadcast career to be out all year long.

If Dak suffered a season ending injury late in the season or in the playoffs and Romo only missed broadcasting a few games, then the publicity the network would get over it might more than make up for the inconvenience.

Is this saga ever going to end?

I am not sure why you think it is a saga. It is just a long term backup plan. Romo is not coming back if Dak is out for a week or 2. I would think a 4-8 week injury is the only thing that Romo would come back for..

Scenario: We are 7-1 and rolling. Up against the Falcons on a Sunday afternoon. Dak pulls back from center and is flushed, rolling away from the pressure he is hit from behind and taken awkwardly to the turf pinning his knee under him, tearing his ACL. Moore comes in and we lose the game. Cowboys drop 3 close games in a row. Jerry places a call to Romo- telling him this is his chance to win the Superbowl.

You confident Romo says no? Because I would bet he is privately working out the day Dak got hurt ready to return.

I think Jerry knows Romo's not coming back. He's just leaving that dangling out there to stir up discussion and keep the attention on the Cowboys.

So when Dak throws his first INT, am I supposed to chant "put in Kellen" or "put in Tony"?

Why would they honor Tony Romo? Thank God I wasn't around when they celebrated the Denver Bronco!!!

What next, Matt Stafford?!

His numbers will dwarf Romo's and Stafford is a bum!

I agree, there is no way you bring him back in the case of Dak struggling. You just have to live with that if it were to happen, which I don't see.

Why would we honor a non hall of famer

The following non- HOFers are in our "Ring of Honor": Dandy Don, Chuck Howley, Don Perkins, Lee Roy Jordan, Cliff Harris, Drew "Eagle Killer" Pearson and Woody.

Should we immediately remove them from the ROH? Didn't think so. Carry on.

There is no doubt in my mind that if God forbid, Dak gets a season ending injury, Romo will be back.

My mid afternoon worthless thought. I hope when they put Tony Romo in the ring of honor they do it when the Cowboys are on the road. Just the Jones family the Romo family and big empty AT&T stadium. I would like that.

I can see the first interception DAK throws the camera pans across networks to Tony's CBS booth.

delusional. Tony's not coming back and if he does it will be a disaster.
If they ask Romo to come back, the Titanic will already be sinking it not like they are going to call him because we aren't on an 11 game win streak, I don't think he will come back any ways, if something happen during mini camps or training camp all bets are off
