After watching his team fall two games short of the Super Bowl in 2014, it sounds like Jerry Jones is prepared to go all-in for 2015.

You probably already assumed that Jones was all-in after the Cowboys signed both Greg Hardy and La'el Collins this offseason, while also drafting Randy Gregory.

If it wasn't clear though, Jones made it clear on Friday when he told a Dallas radio station that he'd be willing to trade the Cowboys 2016 first-round pick if it meant improving the team "now."

Dang it Jerry.

I love that he would do it but why would you show the Vikings your cards.

I wouldn't be opposed to this, since all the question marks at RB would be answered.

However, by what FO has done with the RB position thus far it appears they want those questions answered in the upcoming OTAs.

I think they pull the trigger if they see that the RBs on the roster now aren't want they project them to be.

I don't agree that the Cowboys have gone "all in" by signing Hardy and Collins and by drafting Gregory.

Hardy was signed before the draft when it appeared this team was in dire need of an edge rusher and a rare opportunity presented itself.

Gregory and Collins were also opportunities that presented themselves and that the Cowboys seized.

This was a build for the future offseason. Just because those moves will also help in the short term, does not mean that the Cowboys are going "all in."

Also, Jerry stated he would be open to trading a high pick, but he also explained ultimately why he won't do so:

"It's a bitter pill to swallow," Jones said of trading a first-round pick away. "I've done that two times and I'm telling you, it hurts bad the next draft day."

If we trading high picks, I would rather trade a 2nd for Gio Bernard then a 1st AD. In Bernard we get a guy that would run for 1,500 behind our line, catch 60 passes would be on a
2nd round rookie contract for the next two years as opposed to paying AD 30+ million over the next 3

On if Cowboys have extra flexibility with trading away next year’s first-round NFL draft pick:

Jerry Jones: “You have that and I don’t know that the Collins addition did that for us necessarily, but you always have that but it’s a bitter pill to swallow. I‘ve done that two time and I’m telling you, that hurts bad the next draft day. I’d be reluctant to, but certainly if the right situation came along that could improve us now with where we are with Romo in his career and where we are with what we put together. It’s a good time to go for it.”

Cowboys Chief Operating Officer Stephen Jones was posed a similar question by the same radio station later in the day. Here’s his response to host Chris Arnold:

Stephen Jones: “I don’t really see that, Chris. At the end of the day, we’ll look. I don’t ever want to rule anything out. We really want to value our picks. I know we traded a future pick this year , but we thought we were getting a player that was better than the round we were giving up next year. So why not have the current value of that player with us?

So anyway it’s something that we really don’t want to go out there and not really value our draft picks and it would have to be something very unique to make us want to give up a draft pick. We’re always open to a player for another player, that’s more in our wheelhouse, but we’ll continue to look at what our options are.”

Bob Sturm put it at 33% based on the Collins signing. Adding he and Gregory do offer the potential to offset a traded premium pick. I'd be reticent to dump a first though. Could be talked into a second and a player or two.

There are alternate schools of thought in trading a first round pick. One being that that pick represents cap value in that that pick is intended to give you a high caliber starter at a very cap friendly price.

A differing school of thought would be that picking in the late first greatly increases your chancing of a poor performance by a selection and trading that pick for a proven player gives you a better chance at improving the play of your ball club. Example Jimmy Graham will likely impact the Seahawks much more then whoever they would have drafted at 31. This is not fail safe, with the Seahawks being another example with Percy Harvin.

I tend to fall in with former, and as of right now my very short list of names I would trade our first for include only 3 names. Earl Thomas, Eric Berry, and Dontari Poe. Now before you ask what about a guy like Watt. I only included guys at positions of need

I sorta agree. Jimmy is in his prime. Ap, might be 30, but he has 2 years of not playing football. And considering what he did after that ACL tear, at this point, bring it on. Nothing suggests he is slowing down.
