It amazes me people know, not think, but know AP is still a great RB. It is simply too big of a risk to trade a 1st for AP. I would be willing to part with a premium pick if he was playing for cheap. 4 million/yr? Of course. Trade a 4th for AP and pay him 8-10m/yr? I would do that as well. I'm not willing to do both. Trading a 1st and paying him 8-10m with a boatload of guaranteed money is not smart. It's going to cost your 1st rd pick and quite possibly eliminate Hardy as a re-sign candidate right now. So now you're losing 5 years of cheap control for the draft pick, and any flexibility to re-sign a top 5 26 year old de.

If anyone could guarantee that the Cowboys will win the SB if they trade for AP of course every fan would take it. It's not as simple as that and never will be. What if Romo gets hurt again early in the season? Well now you've traded away a likely to be really high 1st rd pick, have another year older AP and lose Hardy. There's to many variables to take this gamble. I will always be partial to trying to maximize the ability to win now, but without affecting the ability to win later.

/Flame Away

"Eliminate Hardy As A Re-Sign Candidate?" Since we don't even know how many games he will be playing this year & that Hardy's on a pay per game contract, we are essentially renting him this year. Plus, he made certain that there was no "Franchise Tag" in his contract, all of that adds up to Hardy commanding a very large, long term contract, after this season. I'd say the chances & the money he commands will be beyond what we will be able to or will be willing to pay him to lock him up long term. As far as Peterson goes everyone does makes great points. Sure, no one can definitely predict anything. However, if you look at the Cowboys success in the past (And The past is about the best predictor there is) each Super Bowl run that the Cowboys made had some key components for their success! They had the following: A better than good Quarterback-CHECK, a better than good to outstanding receiving corps-CHECK, a dominant to unreal Offensive Line-DOUBLE CHECK, a better than average defence with a Pass Rush-I do "Think & Hope So As We Addressed This-CHECK" & A better than average, majority of the carries, type Running Back-?????

As a Fan, I can be okay with wondering what our Defence will be because we addressed it, even if we don't know yet but I'm not comfortable with our Running Back situation, because losing Murray & signing DMC is not addressing it, at least I hope not. Simply put when you sign McFadden & look at what he did over the course of his career, lined up with AP's career, both didn't have great offensive lines & maybe that's not a fair comparison but as far as feeling comfortable just because we have a phenomenal Offensive Line, I don't. The past Super Bowl Cowboy's teams had a great to dominant RB, that's always been one of the past, main-stay parts of The Dallas Cowboys identity. A, RBBC may work for other teams who have won the Super Bowl & I understand that AP will command money even if he re-works a deal to come here, that's why I said I'd be ok with another proven RB. One that can take the majority of the snaps in the run game & is better than average behind this line! Maybe after cuts there will be someone out there, I do hope so, but as the Romo window closes I'd feel a lot more comfortable to go with all these great pieces we got & I'd sure be looking even more forward to the season starting than I am with what amounts to the following logic: "Let's take DMC, name him our starter, THEN, thrown Randle, Dunbar & Williams into a Yatzee Cup, give it a real good shake & see what rolls out, crossing our fingers for a Yatzee!" I'm Just Saying That Makes Me Uncomfortable then again it's just this man's HO as I want what we all want.

GO COWBOYS!

The quote I found, copied & pasted below, was from an article recently written & it posted the following Question:

"Does the signing of La'el Collins, make trading for Adrian Peterson more likely or less likely?

The signing of Collins helps strengthen the team’s protection of Tony Romo and the running game. The Cowboys Blog asked the question as to whether or not this could open things up for the team to acquire Adrian Peterson. You could make the case for either way. On one hand, you can argue that even a replacement level RB should have success with this line. And on the other hand, you could argue that by adding ( 3, 1st rounders ) in the last couple weeks, they could afford to trade a 2016 premium pick, to get a star RB in here. I had been against paying for Peterson, but now, it is tough to ignore that an addition like that could be all that they are missing for a chance at the biggest of prizes!"

The reason I decided to copy & paste that segment of what was clearly a larger article was simply to show that even the league as a whole is on separate sides to what's clearly not an easy choice of this way or that way. If I'm being totally honest then I must agree that there are always risks, every season & it is never cut & dry in the NFL. As Cowboys Fans we always "Want Our Cake & Eat It Too!" If we could trade for AD & he reworked his contract so that we lose a 1st round pick & don't have a heap of dead money down the road then I'm happy & I've made that my stance. However, if you look there are two key points above!

The 1st key above is the statement: "On the one hand, you could argue that even a replacement level RB, "SHOULD" have success with this line."

I don't think we could afford to take that chance, the reason for that is quite simple, if the running game does not pan out & we were to start 0-2 then any suitable trade partner would want to fleece us for far more than what we could negotiate now.

The other key statement: "By adding 3 1st rounders in the last couple weeks, they could afford to trade a 2016 premium pick, to get a star RB in here"....&...."it is tough to ignore that an addition like that could be all that they are missing for a chance at the biggest of prizes!"

Notice the article says "to get a star RB in here" & "an addition like that could be all that they are missing" It's not Just Us, most fan bases see our running game as if it's a "Work In Progress Of Sorts" I don't feel good, nor comfortable with it. Truthfully, it really doesn't have to be AP, sure I'd love to see what AP/AD could do behind this line, I think it would turn out to be insane, in fact I think we would have a chance to have a better season start than we did when we matched New England game for game until we were both 9-0, if memory serves! However, I think the more important aspect is that this team should negotiate now, maximizing what they can do with what they have verses trying to handle it when teams know you are in a tight spot. I'd feel so awesome if we had our own "Lynch-Type, Peterson-Type, Every Down Dominant Back, Known & Ready To Rumble!" Anyway that's why I pasted the article, so I could see more opinions, thoughts, etcetera, from the "Dallas Cowboy Nation/Fan Base!"
