I think also in the interview he said they might look at a young qb but it "might not be in the first round." And that's fine, you don't draft a qb you aren't sold on just to get one in the 1st round. But, I also hope Jerry and Spaulding are equipped with the data that shows 57 qb's have taken a team to the Super Bowl : 28 were selected in round 1, 6 were selected in round 2, and 7 were selected in round 3. 41 of 57 qb's were selected with essentially premium draft picks. The odds are much better. Only Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme were undrafted.

No matter the reality of the situation, Jerry just wants to BELIEVE so badly that things will work.

Said it countless times, his pathological optimism holds this franchise back in so many ways.

Nobody in the entire organization is going to question this outlook with realism. On the rare times someone talks sense to him and above all can make him understand, it is usually too late.

Look at Aikman. He continued to mortgage drafts to get him weapons when his back was shot. Then when it truly hits him, he panics.

But they got a Romo once, they can get a "miracul" again.

I wonder if he's thinking 4 to 5 years based on our great line, the same line that.......oh, forget it.

So Jerry is probably thinking to himself, "If we had drafted JFF, we would probably have won most of those games that Romo missed and be in the division lead. I knew I was right--validation! No way I'm going to let them outvote me again. 2016 is going to be Jerry's draft!"

If he truly thinks Romo has that longevity, he is crazy. Romo is a talented NFL QB on the downside of his career and should retire soon before he gets badly hurt.

It did not come across that way. He kept saying he was alone in wanting Manziel. Sounds like he was convinced that first round QBs are no bueno when you have a Romo was the thought he took away from it.

But Manziel especially is going to be that itch he never got to scratch. Eventually, he probably will.

Jerry being testy means Jerry knows he's wrong and getting drilled for it.

4-5 year is ridiculous. I'd give him 2 ..tops. I'm 45 and am sore regarding any workout I do. A guy going into his late 30s getting hit like he does will get hurt. The hit the other day wasn't even that violent. I'm hoping Tony retires and makes it on his own down the road.

Please leave Jerry.

I'd give him 2 years tops but I don't think they'll be injury free years.

I loved Johnny Football at A&M and I'll admit that when it he plays in the NFL I usually try to tune in but he CAN'T play here in Dallas. Can you imagine the circus that would attract? I've had enough about Krakens, monkeys and stealing underwear. Anytime Johnny Football had a drink at a Chilis, it would cause a global nuclear meltdown in the media with Ed Werder standing in front of grilled fajitas as he reports on the circumstances. No thanks.

This is coming from a guy who wanted the Cowboys to draft JF in the first place. I can admit I'm wrong.

If you watch Manziel he is not that bad of a QB.

I'd love to have him here as a backup because I think he still can develop into a pretty good player but the lightning rod that he is with the media just makes it not worth it.

He is the type of guy we need when Romo goes down though.

I would love RG3 as well as a backup because he is mobile, and throws down field well.

If we're not serious about firing Garrett and not drafting a QB then I want a guy behind Romo that is willing to make plays with his legs because no other QB is going to consistently do well in this trash scheme.

It doesn't matter if Jerry is ridiculous or wrong or wrong headed, he is the boss of the Cowboys today and in the future as far
as we can tell. Romo has lots of money on the table and he's not leaving any of it there as long as he can show up to collect
the checks. Guys, you have to accept the certainty and inevitability of this situation. They will keep looking for a viable backup
and failing most likely. I suspect that the Cowboys will keep drafting lineman to try and keep Romo standing but will have
to live for the next few years with his injuries. Manning is showing what it looks like to get old and Romo is starting to
develop that pattern. Oh well, let's start talking draft, okay?

I like Tony as much as anyone but he's 35 and has a history of injuries. Anyone that thinks that Tony can play well for another 5 years is delusional.

Call me delusional then.

Tony's injuries have almost all been bone breaks. Which dont cause problems like other injuries.

Tom is almost 40 with an ACL tear in his history...still playing fine.

While I don't think Tony can play at a high level past 38 that's conjecture. You can't equate a bad back with broken bones. You can argue Tony keeps the ball too long but in his injuries the D is getting to him quickly. One could argue we don't handle the blitz well and many would agree. And this is a known way to play Tony.

What is not logically arguable is we need to develop QBs better and must pick up better backup QBs. What I took away from this mess is a good vet while developing a young guy. I could even argue we should have a two QB projects on the PS. At the least you might get a backup who already knows the system.

And we need someone to teach this line, RBs and TEs how to pick the blitz up better as well as play more max protection until we back them off the LOS and blitzing.
