Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes defensive end Greg Hardy may not have been convicted of domestic violence because he is innocent.
Hardy was initially found guilty of domestic violence in a North Carolina court before a re-trial dismissed him of charges when his accuser did not show up to court. It has been reported that Hardy and his accuser reached a civil settlement.
"We really did our homework and our investigations," Jones told Bernard Goldberg on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. "And the facts are that he was not convicted."
After the interviewer responded that Hardy wasn't convicted because his accuser was a no-show in the second trial, Jones speculated that Hardy wasn't convicted because he was innocent.
"Yes, well, you could say that," Jones said. "But he might not have been convicted because he didn't do it."
