He should take responsibility for the position we were in, no?

Bad cap management

It's more like if the cap is $148m then you would be wise to plan ahead. A $8m AAV is ~5% of your cap and you can only have so many of those in your 53. We have a QB, OT, and WR that are already taking up $42m AAV. We also already have about half of the available cap space ($71m) dedicated to the offense.

Now if you want to say that we shouldn't pay Romo, Smith, and Dez then we are just going to have to agree to disagree. IMO, Romo, Smith and Dez do not have bad contracts even with Dez at the franchise amount.

We have two bad contracts on this team right now. The first is Miles Austin contract. He was a June 1 last year and is on the books. If you want to criticize that then fine but I would remind you we were forced to restructure him in 2012 after we got shafted with the cap penalty. The other of course is Carr but that is set to change soon. Thing is also that we are currently $8m under the cap and have several restructure possibilities to bring us far below that if we wanted to.

After next year is when we start exercising the 5th year option on Fred and thinking about an extension. Crawford is also set to be a FA and either he or Scandrick is our top defensive player. The year following that is Martin's turn. If not paying Murray top dollar this year allows us to keep both of those guys in the coming years then it is a no brainer to me.

We will also be in a position to make offers to McClain or any other FA without having to restructure. Signing Barber to a similar deal ($7m AAV) back in 2008 was one of the biggest mistakes this franchise has ever made.

On some other forums, eagles would have rather paid Shady. I'm telling you.

Murray will expose himself as the fraud that he is.

Screen shot this.

This is true, I have been trolling over on Eagirls fan sites today and they're about split 50/50 on this move. Some are unconditionally backing Chip and his "moves" and others are concerned about Murray's durability and size of contract. Some Eagles are asking why they didn't keep Shadey and then sign Murray for about a million or 2 less when Shadey is a better fit for their offense. Not my thoughts but passing on what I've read from eagles fans.

I doubt Jerry himself actually crafted that statement. With that being said, it was about as reasonable of a statement as one could expect.

That was Christie that wrote that now that he is part of the organization.

We lost Carter ( 2nd round), Durant (Ufa), Melton (UFA), Parnell (PS) Harris ( 6th round) and Murray ( 3rd Round).

These players are all replaceable and not necessarily with only the 27th pick. Even the FAs we signed were pretty cheap. I suspect we will take the same approach again.

No kidding. That 4-12 record we had last year clearly shows.........oh wait a minute.

I'll give Jerry credit because he has improved but I need to see a few more years of playoffs before I declare him anything but an average GM. And that's being generous.

This year is going to show us a lot. Let's see what this FO does.

My prediction - first Eagles game, this scenario occurs:

Value of Demarco Murray is proved without a doubt not by him rushing for the 85 yds he gets during that game, but by the fact that Adrian Peterson (which the Cowboys 'brilliantly got') misses a block on the Eagles blitz straight up the middle which knocks Tony Romo out for the season - with Romo's replacement winning 2 of the remaining games and Dallas falling to the cellar in the NFC East. Way to protect your $100+ million investment in Romo, Jerry.

If today told you anything it should be that Jerry is no longer the GM.

..and they just traded for a starting QB coming off 2 ACL's.

Yeah I want to jump on this point for a second. Here's my little rant about Demarco, and I was/am a Demarco fan. But I question the logic and reasoning of Murray saying the Eagles are his best chance to win a ring or whatever his exact wording was. I just questioned Murray's statement that the Eagles are in a better place to win a super bowl with no viable #1 receiver, weaker oline, qb coming off 2 ACL surgeries, problems on defense, a coach/gm that committed to a guy (Mathews) and then screwed him over before he could actually sign the contract that both parties agreed to and the previously mentioned coach/gm making what appears to be self serving personal decisions based on who he can get along with and not based on talent.

How come the Teams like NE and now Seattle never have cap problems. I've been hearing both those teams were gonna have cap problems for about 4 years now...

Bad cap management

You must not be reading both Jerry's and Stephen's past statements on
their poor cap management. Going forward this is the new reality.
I myself prefer to see this as very positive.
We'll replace Murray and go right along.

Or, my prediction. 2 minutes drill with the Eagles down by 3 points and have to go the 30 yards to try and tie. It's 2nd and five, they quick hand the ball to Murray, he gets to the second level and Hitchens makes a extremely routine tackle and the ball squirts out. Dallas recovers, Romo takes 3 knees and everyone remembers that Murray led the league in fumbles from the rb position.

And that's what I can't get about the Eagles. Do they actually believe that Bradford is going to stay healthy? Has there ever been a QB in the NFL coming off 2 ACL surgeries that had a real good career?

Elway played his entire career without an ACL in one of his knees.

Its a hard choice. Philly clearly over paid for Murray and Dallas should not have matched that offer. On the other hand, the team is still climbing out of some bad management years and would have been able to swing maybe enough to keep Murray with out matching Philly if things had been different. They have one more year of bad dead money from the dark years then they have to just deal with Romo's messed up contract and try not to restructure him this year (which is what they are doing even if its hurts).

Its a roll of the dice that you can plug a back in (that can do all the little things needed) and piece together a plug and play defense. Worked last year so maybe they can get it done again but the main thing is to get Romo's money out of the future. They painted themselves into a corner a few years ago.

I wouldn't have paid that much for Murray even with the cap space.

RBs just don't repeat after 390 carry seasons unless their name is Erik Dickerson, and Murray is no Dickerson.
