Jerry Jones wants Roger Goodell out, and he has a fascinating replacement in mind

What you may not know, however, is that according to our sources the debate is no longer about how much money Goodell makes, it’s about Jerry Jones wanting Goodell out altogether, and rather than it being a financial matter, it’s become a very personal vendetta with Jones irate about how Goodell has handled the Ezekiel Elliott domestic abuse allegations and the resulting suspension now making its way through the courts and dominating most of the coverage surrounding Jones’ Cowboys.

Certainly, Goodell is mired in a debilitating losing streak beginning with the Ray Rice and Greg Hardy cases – with Hardy ironically ending up one of Jerry’s boys as well – and extending through Deflategate, NFL relocation to Los Angeles now going very badly for the Chargers – which ironically was driven by Jones, not Goodell — the Elliott case and now the Colin Kaepernick/national anthem crisis.

While we hear that not all of the 16 other owners on the conference call are yet ready to side with Jones in replacing Goodell, all are apparently unhappy with the handling of at least one or more of those issues.

Where all of this really got some legs was with a report we heard from two different sources late last week that Jones is even thinking about a replacement for Goodell — Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian.
The only thing better than Goodell being forced out is if it is at the hand of Jerry Jones.

Bill Polian would make an excellent choice.

I have read that the current 17 conference call was not exclusive the Elliot situation, but more of the handling of other issues (national anthem, decrease ratings, etc). One particuar owner, I believe the Texans prior to making his stupid statements, had said the NFL (Goodell) was too busy waking up and chasing the latest bad news reported in the media.

I hope Jerry gets his way. Goodell is a disgrace in general, and in particular is trying to torpedo what could be a Super Bowl season for the Cowboys by convicting the top RB in the league based on non-credible accusations which could lead to a ripe environment against any player in the league for future blackmail by any skank who wants to get a payday.

Jerry doesn't want to get rid of Goodell. If he did, he wouldn't have waited until the point in the process when he needed an impossibly high number of owners voting with him. He's just pitching a hissy fit, for the benefit of Dallas fans who are annoyed at the suspension and want to see him fight back (but aren't bright enough to see he's only making a show of fighting back, not doing it for really).

he does not need a high number to let Goodell's contract to lapse. He needs 24 votes to fire him as in end his current contract which runs until 2019. He just needs a majority to hold up the extension.

How many is needed to affirm a contract extention? I know that 24 is needed to oust him and that 17 have participated in a conference call to discuss this, and that there is a committee assigned to a extention. But is there a majority vote needed to affirm said committee reccomendation? Just curious....

I think, if you are correct, you just answered my question I just posted

The answer is in the article linked in the original post. 24 needed to affirm the extension

Polian or whoever the new commissioner is will be the face of one of the worse work stoppages in sports history. That venom ain't going away when the buffoon is gone.

The NFL's popularity was bound to decline, but they're doing a good job of accelerating it themselves. Kids growing up today are playing less organized football. Soccer and flag football leagues - things that didn't even exist when I was a kid - are growing in popularity. Those kids aren't magically going to turn into dedicated fans of the NFL when they grow up.

The NFL isn't going to die any time soon, but its peak popularity has passed. How they handle themselves, players and owners, will determine the severity of its decline.
