Jerry Jones wants Roger Goodell out, and he has a fascinating replacement in mind

The answer is in the article linked in the original post. 24 needed to affirm the extension

And it says,

"On the other hand, an extension for Goodell will also require 24 votes, so it seems quite likely Jones has the votes to block a new deal for Goodell if that is the direction he chooses to go in."

I guess, my point was that JJ probably can conjure up the votes needed to impede Goodell from an extention, but I was't exactly sure of the necessary votes needed to do so.

This would be far more credible if Jerry had said a peep during Deflategate.

It's kind of silly to start crying only when the Gestapo knocks on your door and not your neighbors, now he just looks like he's doing it because it's personal rather than because he feels Goodell is really bad for the league.

He’s well respected so it’s totally believable

is he? or is he tolerated?

he is really selfish and has always done what is best for jerry and the cowboys and not what is best for the owners which is what the league was built on. the old owners helped each other out and made sure each team was operating well and had money.

Jerry came in and from day one said its mine, all this is mine and really didnt give a damn about the rest of the league.

I don't know if I totally agree with that. He didn't pull any of the old money out of the revenue sharing. All he did was keep the NEW money he generated through marketing. He was doing things and selling naming rights...etc...that none of the other teams were doing. I kind of think it was all his.

All that said, I don't know if you're wrong about his popularity. I bet there's a large number that just tolerate him. The question becomes, who's worse? Goodell or Jerry. My money is on Goodell. His number one job is to sell the league and he's doing a terrible job of it.

Polian is senile, but he would not be a dictator ala Goodell.

The only thing better than Goodell being forced out is if it is at the hand of Jerry Jones.

Bill Polian would make an excellent choice.
I don't like Polian because I think it will be more of the same with him as far as attitude towards players. His reasoning for T.O. shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame is that two teams fired him. Bill Polian is in the Hall of Fame, but he himself was fired twice. Amazing. I am not into people in power going on rants about player behavior when they themselves need to look in the mirror.

Jerry doesn't want to get rid of Goodell. If he did, he wouldn't have waited until the point in the process when he needed an impossibly high number of owners voting with him. He's just pitching a hissy fit, for the benefit of Dallas fans who are annoyed at the suspension and want to see him fight back (but aren't bright enough to see he's only making a show of fighting back, not doing it for really).
And this is probably the case much like Jerry’s antics on other highly visible issues. Just playing to the Lynch Mob.

I’d be suspect supporting any move Jerry wants and doubt many owners are aligning with him.

Here’s an idea. Stop drafting and pursuing problem players and they won’t be suspended.

I keep hoping Jerry will cross the line with one of these issues and draw a suspension. Better yet get voted out of the league like Donald Sterling.

Polian or whoever the new commissioner is will be the face of one of the worse work stoppages in sports history. That venom ain't going away when the buffoon is gone.

Polian is a football person not a lawyer first person.

Unfortunately the NFL needs a lawyer person first with all of the potential lawsuits and litigation that arise. And why the league has to take political stances on certain issues to avoid them.

The next commissioner might need to be more than just a lawyer type but a prosecutor type. Remember the Commissioner represents the owners not the players.

I have read that the current 17 conference call was not exclusive the Elliot situation, but more of the handling of other issues (national anthem, decrease ratings, etc). One particuar owner, I believe the Texans prior to making his stupid statements, had said the NFL (Goodell) was too busy waking up and chasing the latest bad news reported in the media.
The money issued as always is the issue
Jerry doesn’t like the zeke deal, Kraft doesn’t like the Brady deal but Goodell allowing revenue to drop is the real issue. He could be sleeping with their wives and that wouldn’t get him fired as fast as messing with their money

is this true? i thought i had read that the 6 person committee had the power to extend goodell? do they only negotiate the contract and terms and then it has to go to a vote for the extension?

I’ll believe it when it happens.
Remember when Goodell supposedly got that 5 year extension like 2 months ago? That was never signed, and around that time Jerry straight up told Goodell, "you better get your resignation ready." This has all been in motion MUCH longer than everyone thinks.

Bill Polian would make an excellent choice.

Polian is at least a football guy.

He grew up in the Bronx, and graduated from NYU in in '64 with a degree in history, and played safety for their team.
He coached at Manhattan College and the Trinity School in New York (both now defunct).
He was a scout for the KC Chiefs and Chicago Blitz.
He put together Grey Cup winning teams with Montreal and Winnipeg.

He turned around the Bills teams in the late 80'/early 90's with signing of future stars, such as Bruce Smith; they went to 4 consecutive SB's, but he was fired after the '92 season, when they lost their third straight.

During his tenure with the Colts, the had 7 straight seasons of at least 12 wins, and made the playoffs 8 consecutive years. He led one of the most productive decades in NFL history through 2009, but was fired after the 2-14 2011 season.

I don't have any info on his current cognitive function.
