Jerry loved him some Brandon Weeden

College isn't the NFL. We aren't going to let our season ride on a QB who's never started a game.

Versus letting season ride on a vet back up who's not won in 9 of his last starts? Weeden wasn't even "ballsy" in college. Don't become so enamored with arm strength.

I simply don't trust Weeden to win the game. And it's only going to get worse with top tier QBs like Brees and Brady in the future combined with the defensive effort from the defense yesterday.

Cassell has had much more success in this league than Weeden has. I'd try to get Cassell in there as soon as possible.

cassell or moore, either one, get them in there now, anyone can throw those short dump off passes, and maybe these 2 can also
look for a wr sometimes. or run few yards for a 1st down and not cower from being hit.

I often feel like Weeden is unsure of himself and a deer in headlights when he's playing. He was drafted earlier than Aaron Rogers of all people.

I'm not. I actually said in the pre-season that I could see the Cowboys losing every game that Weeden would have to start if Romo was hurt. I never wanted him here. He's awful.. He was awful in Cleveland. But he didn't play that bad yesterday. He didn't lose the game, the defense did.

He wasn't supposed to. He was told to use the checkdown game yesterday and rely on Dunbar, Beas & Witten.
That was the gameplan and he executed it. Atlanta adjusted at the half and the Cowboy's coaches took a nap.
The Cowboys will have to win games from the lead this year because the coaches don't have enough faith in Weeden
to bring them back from behind. Weeden is not Romo and never will be. I do think Weeden can make throws down
the field but, the coaches have to let him do it!

yeah exactly, and it was poor coaching by JG and linehan and marinelli.
Weedon is a gutless puppet , he will do as he is told, and if they told him to go deep he would, he didnt so that means
they didnt tell him to, or call those type plays.
JG went back to playing to not lose. and lost.
They lost the game in 2nd half, when atlanta adjusted to ignore our WR's , and just look at runs and short passes.

if your offense is not winning the time of possession and giving more time to your defense you run the risk of gassing out your defense. it all steams from weeden. atlanta stacked the box and dared weeden to go deep. he cant. three and outs quick. hence loosing the time of possession. hence deferring to your defense. not a good look. our defense plays better when our offense wins TOP battle.

This is exactly how we won last year and the first two games of this year.

His brain fart of an INT which lead to an easy TD while Cowboys led 21-7 and mounting another attack to score did not help. And Weeden's inability to throw further than 5 yards or completely ignore his WRs is responsible for Cowboys losing TOP in second half which contributed to D being on the field an inordinate and insane amount of time. And sliding before he got the first down during crunch time, what the frikkin F was that????

Expectations for this D have become a little unreasonable. Many conveniently forget that this D is also short one of its best LBs, it's best CB, and its best TWO pass rushers. That's 4 playmakers. Very similar to O without Tony and Dez.

It had less to do with what Weeden could do, but more to do with what he couldn't. In the second half, Atlanta adjusted and stacked the defense closer to the line which accomplished two things: It made it impossible to run for these two RBs we have, and it took away alot of those dinks and dunks that weeden would only do whether it be by design like some think or because he gets scared to throw it downfield and instead opts for the short passes over the line.
If by design (coaches designed the gameplan of all short throws), then Weeden did everything he should of which worked in first half, but stopped working when Atlanta made the correct defensive adjustments after half. This would then mean, our coaching staff is so inept as to not adjust properly to what Atlanta is doing. Of course the defense is going to stack the line and play closer to the box, that is where the action is. The Falcons even said so pointing out the fact that Weeden would never challenge them downfield.

Did Weeden have much of a chance to do anything in the 2nd half? He rarely was in a favorable position. He didn't challenge deep in the first half, nor should he have. Then in the 2nd half he was in bad positions and we don't know what was open. The miss to Witten was a huge play that could have made a big difference in the outcome. He needs criticism for that.

Jerry's love for Weeden is not surprising. Jerry always falls head over heels for his former baseball players with 90+ mph fastballs. Problem is that the Cowboys play FOOTBALL.

if only he had bought a baseball team !!!!!!!!!!!

Weeden & co. didn't do any favors in the second half but this was a team loss. Defense could not stop Atlanta. 28 points is typically enough to win.

Hindsight is 20/20, but don't you think we should have considered drafting a QB to groom under Romo if the plan wasn't to go all out and win the SB within the next year or two?

Also, not saying we should have paid Murray, but it doesn't make sense why the FO is going to skimp on an important position that helped keep Romo healthy last year, if in fact, they realized what everyone else could; the super bowl window is Romo's window.

when Romo is gone, all that talent on the team means nothing with QB's like Weeden as the only alternative.

I've got a funny feeling that Jerry's love affair with Weeden is destined for a heartbreaking divorce!

We all saw it. Third and a few, late in the game, Weeden scrambles right, there's open field a chance to get to the sticks and keep limited hope alive. And Weeden decides to take a comfy slide. This, after a long day of dump offs, hook patterns, and quick slants.

Weeden simply doesn't have the gonads to play in the NFL. That was on full display.

But not if you ask Jerry. Nope, our newly-hipped owner just gushed on and on at how splendidly he thought Weeden and his prettiest-pass-Jerry-has-ever-seen performed yesterday. (Jimmy had fun bringing that up to Troy earlier, and Troy was rightly miffed that Jerry would say such a thing.)

Jerry saw sunshine and rainbows. We saw 0-7 as a suddenly real possibility.

Weeden very well may have done mostly what he was told to by coaches all day. Perhaps next week he'll air it out more, we'll see. I'll leave a smidge of room for first-game jitters and rust, and hope he'll be more relaxed in New Orleans.

But the LAST thing I thought after that game was about how well Weeden played. Stats are for non-thinkers, and yesterday was a prime example; Weeden dumped the ball down over and over and running backs RAN for his passing yards. That looks good on paper, but doesn't speak to the reality of what Weeden did.

Atlanta rightly adjusted at halftime and ganged up on the run, daring Weeden to go downfield. He simply doesn't feel comfortable standing in a pocket, and the dump-downs continued. It was up to him to back the Falcons off, and he couldn't.

An ugly ZERO points in the second half, yet Jerry remained giddy over his golden-armed backup QB.

I don't know that Cassel is any better, but I know he couldn't play any more scared. I suppose Weeden has to play this weekend so Cassel can keep sponging the playbook, but I'm ready for a change asap, because you can't play in this league without your testicles. Especially when you have a good offensive line like Dallas.

Stephen needs to thump Daddy in the nose and tell him that. The coaches need to start cram-studying Cassel. The team needs to figure out a way to win this weekend somehow, someway despite Weeden.

Then, give it to Cassel when the Patriots come to town.

Its called trying to build up his confidence because you have no other choice until Cassel gets up to speed.
