I don't think Crayton really thought this through before he said it. Most stadiums in the Metroplex that would be fit to house a Cowboys practice/minicamp are going to be field turf. I live in Wichita Falls, and the Cowboys would NEVER use this stadium to practice in, and it has field turf. It's all the rage now for high school stadiums to have it, especially nice ones. They can then host high school playoff games in December and rake in the bucks.

I bet Patrick doesn't realize that. And DC if you really are from NY, you probably didn't realize it either.

There are some grass fields, but the Cowboys chose a place which is close to VR. And some of the places with grass that were kinda close turned down the Cowboys because they didn't want their fields to get torn up.

I just wish Jerry would have pushed a little to find some grass to work on.

I have already spoken to three people who were at the practices and say the players hate this field and that it does seem to be putting more stress on their legs because it's old and slick.

Stanback is down. Wilson is down. Austin and Hurd are missing time because Wade is being cautious and most think it's because of this field.

I know it was a tough situation. I get that completely.

But this is the Dallas Cowboys.

Maybe I was wrong to think some of the people who run the stadiums with grass would jump at the opportunity to have the Cowboys come use their facility for pratices. It sure looks like it from the feedback I am getting today from people in the know.

And what's the 'really from NY' thing about? Of course I am, lol.

I had that one orignally, but I like how happy ray looks next to rowdy.

I forgot how many people hated rowdy, it's just some dude in a foam rubber suit to me.

perfect world image would be ray at the boat show catching trout, man that was the highlight of my boat show trips every year with my folks. Ray would pull trout out, and make bets with the kids that he could catch more than them. Good memories.

LOL, I found one, wish he was in his cowboys' gear but you can see the fish behind him in this one.

still miss ya ray

my folks would just drop me off at the trout and I would sit there the whole time fishing with Ray while they looked at boats.

hope his family is doing alright.

Poor players...having to practice on that field.

Take their ***** to Witcha Falls and train! See how they like that...?

Pansies...Cowboy crybabies!

And it's all Jerry's fault?

Besides, if they practice on some highschool grass field? The damn thing would be torn up the first day?

If the recievers little legs are hurting...? Man the **** up and get with it!

Crybabies!!

It doesn't.

Crayton said that. Read the original post.

Here is what Crayton said:

"This turf right here - nice high school stadium - I hate this stuff," Crayton said. "It's pitiful on your legs and your joints and everything. I wish we could've found a grass stadium, but you've got to work with what you've got, and I think people are starting to use this as an excuse.
"I think some of the younger guys are starting to go down. It's a mental thing right now."

Here is what I said:

Where does it say that players are sitting out so they don't have to practice on it?
I see where Crayton said some guys are getting hurt (starting to go down as he put it). However, nowhere does he say that guys are sitting out practice in order to stay away from the turf.

So... I don't see where anyone has said that other than you when you said:

But they should have found a stadium with grass which is what the fields at VR have so we don't have Crayton saying the field sucks and that guys are sitting out so they don't have to pracice on it.

Austin, Hurd and Hodge are being held out so they don't have to practice on it.

But at the same time these players are preparing mentally, they're also on their feet and practicing out in the summer heat here in Texas.

Not only that, but it's safe to say that Standridge Stadium isn't exactly a Field of Dreams over there in Carrollton. The field-turf is a little old, which means it's harder on the knees and ankles of some of these players, which could be a reason for the abundance of minor injuries that have hampered about two handfuls of players here in the last couple of weeks.

Then again, once the May 2 accident occurred at Valley Ranch that damaged all three practice fields, the Cowboys really didn't have a great place to go.

You can't just find an empty, secured grass practice field that isn't used by another team.

So the Cowboys have what they have and are most thankful for it.

Standridge Stadium is a perfect high school stadium that is within minutes of Valley Ranch and has been an easy transition for the players and coaches to get to and from on a daily basis.
But getting back to a either a grass field or the softer synthetic surface that they will have in the Alamodome will be much appreciated. Until then, the Cowboys will have to grind it out.
-------------------------

This was written today.

And I think it's the smart move to keep guys who are nursing something to keep them off this thing. Keep the damage to a minimum in June.

The defense doesn't seem to have a problem playing on it.

Meh, if I had my way, these wusses would be in Junction, practicing on a dirt field with cacti and boulders everywhere.

And no water. Only salt tablets.

Yeah.
