I’m not sure why people think he can’t get extended. Extended would almost assuredly lower his cap hit, which you all want, and provide him with guaranteed money that’s not a part of the current deal as well as keep him around for a few more years, which he definitely wants.

Exactly..............a lot of posters are not understanding what an extension does.

They add extra years to his current contract, but at significantly reduced base salaries. Why would the player agree to do this? Because they will guarantee those lower base salaries or a percentage of them. Right now, Dez has no guaranteed money left on his contract, so that is why he would be willing to do it.

The team did the exact same thing with Brandon Carr. They gave him an extension with lower base salaries than what he was currently making, but they guaranteed 50% of the new money since he had no guaranteed money left on his original contract.

Its basically a pay cut disguised as an extension.........its a way to lower a player's salary without embarrassing them.

will the monkey be present at the meeting? love to be a fly on the wall. but seriously, if jerry's going to cull him, it will be tough on him to do so and there are likely to be tears in the room. but the first rule of firing/releasing someone is to let that out immediately so they don't have a chance to try and change your mind. then there will be time for placation, pacification, mollification, reconciliation..............................................................................:(

Good point about doing it quick..........I am a division manager at my job and I have to do all the hiring and firing in that division. Like you said, when you have to fire somebody the best way to do it is nice and quick. Thank them for their service, tell them the situation is just not working, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
